Abstract: A process for applying and bonding a solid lubricant on a substrate whose surface has depressions and pores. The process comprises depositing fine solid lubricant particles on the surface of a substrate to be lubricated in excess of a quantity sufficient to fill essentially all depressions and pores on the substrate surface, and thereafter burnishing the substrate to distribute and bond the lubricant particles on the substrate. Such burnishing of the substrate can be accomplished during its moving contact with another substrate during intended use. Maintenance of lubricity can be accomplished by depositing additional lubricant particles on the substrate and thereafter burnishing, and can be performed while the substrate is in moving contact with another substrate whereby this moving contact performs the burnishing operation.

Abstract: A self-generating gas pressure apparatus such as an expandable closed pouch (2) is placed within a container (60) from which a fluid (68) therein is to be dispensed under pressure. The apparatus has a plurality of internal compartments (14, 16, 22, 24) formed by pressure-rupturable seals (20) and containing respective chemical compounds (30, 32, 34) which when mixed upon adjacent-compartment seal rupture produce a gas. At least one of two adjacently-housed chemical compounds has in addition thereto a nucleating agent such as diatomaceous earth which acts to more rapidly force gas generated in the reaction of the adjacently-housed chemical compounds out of solution and thereby provide an operative pressure to the apparatus more quickly.

Abstract: A base coat applicator utlizing an in-feed chute which provides supply of cans which are mounted on mandrels for application of base coat material by applicator wheels (26, 30). The mandrels are rotated so that surface speed of the cans matches the applicator wheel speed to prevent smearing. Independent control of the inventory production speed of the base coat applicator machine and the applicator wheels allows any desired number of base coat layers to be applied to the cans. Two applicator wheels are used to reduce surface speeds to prevent misting and slinging of base coat material from the applicator wheels and can surfaces. The applicator assembly (15) is automatically withdrawn when the supply of cans is not present and can be manually withdrawn by the operator to prevent application of base coat material to cans or empty mandrels. Disk transfer unit (92) is utilized to transfer the coated cans to deco pin chain.
