Abstract:
The present invention relates to benzoxazinone compounds having a yellow index less than about 0, and a sodium concentration less than about 50 ppm. This invention also relates to a process for preparing these compounds comprising the step of reacting an isatoic anydride with approximately stoichiometric amounts of an acylating compound, where the isatoic anhydride is purified by re-crystallization or other purification methods.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the production and purification of melamine and, in particular, to the purification of a crude melamine product, while minimizing impurities comprising at least one of melem, melam, melon, or ureidomelamine. The crude melamine can be treated with ammonia and a promoter to achieve a very high melamine content in the purified product, at more advantageous conditions, than treatment with ammonia alone. The present invention is also directed to an improved melamine production process that yields melamine with so few impurities that it can be pure enough as to not require an additional purification step.

Abstract:
A novel crosslinker composition based on a combination of 1,3,5-tris-(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate and a dicarboxylic acid crosslinking agent is provided. Also provided is a curable epoxy composition employing, as the cross-linker component, a combination of 1,3,5-tris-(2-carbocyethly)isocyanurate and a dicarboxylic acid crosslinking agent, which curable composition finds use, for example, in coating applications. When cured, these coatings provide hard, durable and resistant films of low gloss.

This invention relates to ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers of formula (I) wherein Y is (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h or i) wherein A is (j, k, l, m, n or o) wherein each R is individually H, -(-CqH2q-O-)m-R , (p), etc., which are particularly suitable for use as wet adhesion promoters and in the preparation of self-crosslinking polymers. More specifically, the polymerizable monomers of the present invention are useful to promote adhesion in polymers and copolymers, and especially in aqueous emulsion copolymer latices which are used to prepare latex paints, as well as in the preparation of self-crosslinking polymers for coating systems.
Abstract:
New and improved processes and compositions for use in flotation recovery of metal values from base metal zinc sulfide ores are disclosed. The collector compositions for froth flotation of metal sulfide minerals comprise the combination of 1) at least one allylalkylthionocarbamate compound having formula (I), wherein R is a C2 to C8 alkyl radical, preferably R is an isobutyl group, and 2) a xanthate having formula (II), wherein R' is a C2 to C8 alkyl radical, preferably a C4 radical. More preferably, the C4 radical of the xanthate is a butyl or isopropyl group. Preferably, the concentration of allylalkylthionocarbamate to xanthate is a ratio of from about 1:99 to about 50:50 percent by weight.

Abstract:
The processing of bauxite in the Bayer Process results in the formation of titanaceous, siliceous, and other scale on equipment and apparatus such that a great deal of time and effort is spent in order to maintain the process at its height efficiency by reducing or eliminating the same. The scale is treated, reduced, altered, etc., according to the present invention by the use of hydroxamated polymers having weight average molecular weights of over about 10,000.
Abstract:
Processes for improving solids/liquids separation efficiency in the Bayer process are disclosed, wherein Bayer process streams are treated with calcium or magnesium salts, flocculated with carboxylic acid or salt group-containing polymers, and centrifuged.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for the formation of highly anionic hydroxamic acid polymers whereby (meth)acrylic acid polymers are esterified in aqueous solution to poly(meth)acrylates. The resultant polymers are then reacted with an hydroxylamine to produce hydroxamated (meth)acrylic acid containing polymers. The esterified polymers, their hydroxamated derivatives and their use to flocculate Bayer Process streams are also disclosed.
