    Abstract: Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile was manufd. by the ammoxidn. of propylene or isobutylene and recovered from the reaction mixt. by contacting the product stream with a guenching liq. which forms a gaseous stream, absorbing the gas in water to form a soln. and distg. the soln. to recover acetonitrile by removing the major part of the byproduct and water. The bottom flow from the distn. column is recycled and used at least a part of the quenching liq.

    Abstract: An aq. soln. obtained from the oxidn. of propylene comprising 55% acrylic acid, water, HOAc, and impurities were fed into the top of a first column, contacted countercurrently with diisopropyl ether, and the ext. contg. 19% acrylic acid and 1 % HOAc was removed at the top. The stream was passed to the 15th stage of a 19stage solvent recovery column, the bottom was reboiled to provide the heat for distn., and an overhead contg. solvent, water, HoAc was removed and condensed. A vapor stream from the 7th stage was passed to the bottom of a column, HOAc was removed. By removal of the HOAc in this manner, a bottom stream of 99.9% acrylic acid could be recovered

    Abstract: Unsaturated aldehyde and acid were manufd. by using 2 types of catalysts and controlling oxidation temp. in the fixed bed reactor. The first catalyst consists of partially porous inert supports and coated catalyst adhered to the outer surface of the supports, the second catalyst composed of catalyst materials. The first catalyst was reacted with reactants in the fixed bed reactor tube, and then the second catalyst was reacted with reactants. By above method, propylene or isobutylene were reacted with oxygen mixture in fixed bed to give the corresponding aldehyde or acid.

    Abstract: The P-V-O complex catalysts used for the oxidn. of hydrocarbons, esp. for the prodn. of maleic anhydride(I) from butane were reactivated by treatment with hydrogen halide b.p 250≦̸C. Thus, a catalyst having P-V at ratio 1.2 and V-Zn promoter at ratio 0.2 was used to oxidize butane at 450≦̸C, giving initial conversion 83% and I selectivity 62%, and conversion and selectivity 94% and 27%, after 18 hr. The catalyst was treated with CCl4 for 30min at 400≦̸C by adding the gaseous compd. to the butane-air feed at the normal residence time.

    Abstract: Polymn. catalysts for ethylene were prepd. by reaction of magnesium trichloroacetate with AlCl3 and Ti or V salts, e.g., TiCl4. Thus, a mix, of 7.1g I and 5.1g AlCl3 was heated for 21hr at 100≦̸C and ground for 23hr to give a fine powder. This powder (2g) was heated with 2ml TiCl4 in xylene for 17hr at 100≦̸C to give a solid catalyst.
