Abstract: A preform of optical fibers is prepared by the stages of: manufacturing a glass cylinder having the refractive index distribution of an axis symmetry by vapor axial deposition method, changing a tube by drilling a hole at its center, separately preparing a glass cylinder having the same refractive index distribution by vapor axial deposition method, treating it in the given diameter by drawing method, inserting it into the tube, heating and uniting in a single body.

Abstract: The optical fiber glass preform is prepd. by heat treatment in fluorine-contg. atmos. of shoot preform. Fine glass particles deposit is impregnated with fluorine at such a temp. that it is kept in porous state, is then vitrified under a F compound-contg. atmos. in a furnace at 1100-1400 C. The glass particles deposits are uniformly doped wiht F, and impurity content of the preform is lowered in a large extent.
