Abstract: A method for producing a glass preform for a single mode optical fiber comprising a core and cladding comprises (a) depositing fine glass particles of a glass raw material on the periphery of a cylindrical seed having a smooth and clean outer surface to form a deposited soot by flame hydrolysis, (b) drawing the seed from the deposited soot, (c) inserting a core glass rod in a hollow portion of the glass soot to form a complex body, and (d) drying and sintering the complex body.
