    Abstract: Highly concentrated, dust-free, solid and readily dispersible pigment formulations contain (a) from 70 to 95% by weight of one or more finely divided pigments, (b) from 5 to 30% by weight of one or more surfactants which possess 20-45% by weight of ethylene oxide units, have a mean molecular weight of from 4,000 to 15,000 and are obtained by reacting an amine of the formula where R is C2-C6-alkylene, R1 is H or C1-C4-alkyl and n is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, or R is 1,3-phenylene, 1,4-phenylene or 4,4'-diphenylenemethane, R1 is H and n is 1, with propylene oxide and then reacting the product with ethylene oxide, and (c) from 0 to 5% by weight of waxes and/or antifoams, with or without (d) other agents conventionally used in pigment formulations, the percentages being based on (a+b+c). The formulations are very useful for pigmenting aqueous, alcoholic or aqueous/alcoholic printing inks and surface coatings, and printing pastes for textiles.

    Abstract: Copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) was converted to a form suitable for colouring use by grinding the crude prod. until it consisted of agglomerates composed of particles whose mean size was 0.05 microns or less, suspending the ground material in the 0.8-10 fold (pref. 2-8 fold) amt. by wt. of an organic solvent (1), and heating to 20-180 deg.C (pref. 50-150 deg.C) until the desired colouring strength was attained. Crude CuPc-prepd. e.g. by fusing a mixt. of o-phthalodinitrile and CuCl in anhyd. Na2SO4, and freed from salt by H2O treatment prior to grinding (10-40 hours in a ball mill, pref. 25-35 hours) - has a chlorine content of 2-4 wt.%. (1) may be amino-2-8C-alkanols (pref. 3-aminopropanol), mono- or bi-nuclear 6-membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycles (pref. pyridine), N,N-di(1-8C alkyl) amides of 1-3C carboxylic acids, N-methyl(or cyclohexyl)pyrrolid-2-one, or mixts. of these solvents. Depending on the organic solvent used, the pigment form was isolated from the mixt. either by direct filtration at 80-120 deg.C (or after treatment with H2O or aq. mineral acid) or by first removing the solvent by steam distn. and then filtering the resulting aq. suspension. The CuPc pigment forms have excellent dispersibility and high colouring strength.

    Abstract: Light-fast condensates are prepd. by (i) condensing 0.5-1.5 mol. pts. of >=1 phenolsulphonic acid, free from uncondensed rings, with 0.8-2 mol. pts. urea and 1-3 mol. pts.     Abstract: A water-dispersible powder or paste preparation of a water-insoluble dye contains at least one sodium salt of a water-soluble condensation product of (I) a naphthalene monosulphonic acid or derivative thereof and formaldehyde or (II) a mononuclear aromatic compound capable of reacting with 2 moles of formaldehyde, a napthol sulphonic acid, formaldehyde and optionally sodium sulphite, the content of inorganic salt in said preparation being less than 5%, preferably 0.5% by weight of compound (I) or (II). Products (I) and (II) may be prepared free from salts from the start by a conventional method or the conventional industrial product may be freed from salts by dialysis, ion exchange, electrolysis or precipitation with organic liquids. The preparations may also contain urea or thiourea as dispersion assistants. Suitable dyes are vat or disperse dyes. The preparations may be prepared by grinding, kneading or spray drying. Suitable products (I) and (II) are specified and examples are given.
