Abstract: A process for preparing a homogeneous polyol component which is stable to separation and consists of at least one compound of relatively high molecular weight having at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and low-molecular-weight chain extenders and/or crosslinkers and, if desired, of blowing agents, catalysts and other auxiliaries and/or additives comprises the addition to this component of at least one amine and at least one organic and/or modified organic isocyanate; the invention also provides the corresponding polyol component which is stable to separation. The use of this polyol component for preparing PUR, in particular compact or foamed PUR, is also described.

Abstract: Low-density hydrophilic flexible polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates (a) with a polyetherol mixture,(b) and, if required, further compounds (c) having hydrogen atoms reactive toward isocyanates, in the presence of water and/or other blowing agents (d), catalysts (e) and, if required, further assistants and additives (f), by a process in which the polyetherol mixture (b) consists of b1) at least one difunctional or polyfunctional polyetherol based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and ethylene oxide, having an ethylene oxide content of more than 40% by weight, based on the total amount of alkylene oxide used, an OH number of from 20 to 120 mg KOH/g and a proportion of primary OH groups of more than 20% and b2) at least one difunctional or polyfunctional polyetherol based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and, if required, ethylene oxide, the ethylene oxide content being not more than 40% by weight, and having an OH number of more than 25 mg KOH/g, water in amounts of up to 15% by weight, based on the total weight of the components (b) to (f), and a mixture of gel catalysts and blowing catalysts are used and the foaming is effected in an index range of from 20 to 120. Furthermore, the flexible polyurethane foams themselves produced in this manner are used as upholstery material, as energy-absorbing material and in the cosmetics and hygiene sectors.

Abstract: Rigid polyurethane foam is produced from mixtures of (b1) polyfunctional polyether-ols with OH numbers of 40-800 (including at least one with OH no. above 150) and more than 30 wt% ethylene oxide based on total alkylene oxide and (b2) polyether-ols with OH nos. above 40 based mainly on propylene- and/or butylene oxide, using PIR catalysts and an index of 80-500. A method for the production of rigid polyurethane foam with urethane and mainly isocyanurate groups by reacting (a) optionally modified polyisocyanates with (b) a polyol mixture and optionally (c) other compounds with isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms, in presence of (d) water, (e) catalysts, (f) fire retardants, (g) blowing agents and optionally (f) other additives etc. The polyol mixture (b) comprises (b1) di- to octa-functional polyether-ol(s) based on ethylene oxide (EO) and optionally propylene oxide (PO) and/or butylene oxide (BO), with an EO content of more than 30 wt% based on total alkylene oxide and an OH number of 40-800 mg KOH/g (including at least one polyether-ol (b1.1) with an OH number of more than 150), and (b2) polyether-ol(s) with an OH number of more than 40, based on PO and/or BO and optionally EO, and the foam is produced with a characteristic index of 80-500 in presence of PIR catalysts.. An Independent claim is also included for rigid polyurethane foam as above obtained by this method.

Abstract: Flexible polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates (a) with a polyetherol mixture (b) and, if required, further compounds (c) having hydrogen atoms reactive toward isocyanates, in the presence of water and/or other blowing agents (d), catalysts (e) and, if required, further assistants and additives (f), by a process in which the polyetherol mixture (b) consists ofb1) at least one polyetherol which is at least difunctional, has an OH number of from 20 to 100 mg KOH/g and is based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and ethylene oxide, having an ethylene oxide content of more than 40% by weight, based on the total amount of alkylene oxide used, and, if required, further polyetherols which are at least difunctional, are based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and ethylene oxide and have an OH number of from 20 to 160 mg KOH/g andb2) at least one difunctional to hexafunctional polyetherol based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and having an OH number of less than 800 mg KOH/gand the foams are prepared with indices of less than 110, the amount by weight of (b1) being greater than that of (b2). The flexible polyurethane foams prepared by this process are used for upholstery purposes, and insulation purposes, in vehicle construction and in the medical and hygiene sector.

The flexible polyurethane foams thus prepared are used as carpet, upholstery, seat and packaging material and in the hygiene sector.

The flameproofed flexible polyurethane foams prepared by this process can be used as upholstery for furniture and vehicle seats.
