Abstract: To facilitate dyeing or printing cellulose derivative textiles with acid dyestuffs containing one sulphonic acid group and/or one sulphonamide group (see Group IV (c), there is incorporated in the spinning solution a compound of the formula in which X is CH2, CO or NH and R and R1 are hydrogen or alkyl, aminoalkyl or cyanoalkyl groups. Numerous compounds are specified.ALSO:Textile materials containing organic derivatives of cellulose, e.g. cellulose acetate or ethyl cellulose, are dyed or printed with acid dyestuffs containing one sulphonic acid group and/or one sulphonamide group, there being incorporated in the material, before or during dyeing or printing, a colourless, water-insoluble, bicyclic, saturated basic compound of the formula in which X is CH2, CO or NH and R and R1 are hydrogen or alkyl, aminoalkyl or cyanoalkyl groups. The basic compound may be applied to the textile, before dyeing, as an aqueous dispersion or as an aqueous solution of its formaldehyde-bisulphite compound or its salt with an organic or inorganic acid. When the basic compound is added to the dyebath it may be necessary to add acid. Alternatively, the compound may be added to the spinning solution from which the textile fibres are spun. Numerous examples of compounds of the above formula are given. Specified suitable dyestuffs are of the anthraquinone and azo classes and also the condensation products of 4-amino-3-sulphonaphthalene-1 : 8-dicarboxylic acid anhydride and aromatic amines. Numerous examples are given, in one of which (example 4) acetate fabric is printed with the formaldehyde-bisulphite compound of the base, dried, steamed and then treated with the dyestuff to yield a printed fabric, and in another, (Example 5) the formaldehyde-bisulphite compound is added to the dyestuff printing paste. In examples 6 and 7 the basic compound is added to a cellulose actetate spinning solution employing acetone as the solvent.
