    Abstract: Low-wear thermoplastic moulding materials (I) are claimed, contg. (A) 39-99.99 wt.% thermoplastic polymer, (B) 0.01-5 wt.% of a fullerene and (C) 0-60 wt.% normal additives. (I) pref. contain 99-99.9 wt.% (A) and 0.1-1 wt.% (B). (A) pref. consists of polyamide, PPE, polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polycarbonate, polyoxymethylene, ABS, SAN, ASA or a mixt. thereof. (B) is an opt. fluorinated 60C and/or 70C carbon modification (fullerene). (B) is prepd., e.g. by high-temp. vaporisation of graphite (d.c. heating) in a noble gas atmos. to give "carbon soot", followed by chromatography, fractional sublimation or extn. to give a mixt. contg. 10-30% 60C and 10% 70C fullerenes. (C) are, e.g. impact modifiers, stabilisers, PE wax, pigments, fire retardants etc.. USE/ADVANTAGE - For prodn. of moulded prods.. Also claimed are moulded prods. obtd. from (I). The incorporation of fullerenes gives moulding materials with improved abrasion resistance, suitable esp. for the prodn. of machine components, e.g. ball-bearing cage

    Abstract: Compsns. (I) contain; (A) 40-99.5 % (all pts.wt.) thermoplastic polyester with viscosity no. (DIN 53 726, 0.5% in 1:1 mixt. of phenol and o-dichlorobenzene at 23 deg.C) (VA) 90-300 ml/g; (B) 0.5-10 % low mol. thermoplastic polyamide with viscosity no. (ISO 307, 0.5% in 96% H2SO4 at 25 deg.C) (VA) 30-100 ml/g, where VA-VB is at least 30; (C) 0-50% fibrous or particulate fillers or their mixts., (D) 0-40% rubber-elastic polymer; (E) 0-30% conventional additives. Pref. VA = 100-200 ml/g. VB = 40-80 ml/g. VA-VB is at least 50. (I) contain 50-99% (A) and 1-5% (B). (A) is PET and/or polybutylene terephthalate (II). (B) is polyhexamethylene adipamide (III) and/or polycaprolactam and/or partly aromatic partly crystalline copolyamide. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prepn. of fibres, films, and moulded articles partic. in the motor vehicle industry. (I) have improved flowability compared with compsns. not contg.
