    Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the general formula in which R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an aralkyl radical or an aryl radical, R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R3, R4, R5 and R6 denote hydrogen atoms or substituents which do not impart water solubility, Y denotes the radical of a coupling component free from sulphonic groups and X denotes the equivalent of an anion and a process for the preparation of basic azo dyes, wherein an aminophenyl-hydrazone of the general formula or a salt thereof having the general formula in which R1-R6 and X have the meanings given above is diazotized, coupled with a compound capable of coupling and, if desired, the product is treated with alkylating or aralkylating agents. X may be a Cl-, Br1HSO4-, H2PO4-, ZnCl3-, ZnBr3-, tosylate or CH3OSO3- ion R3-R6 may be alkyl, alkoxy or acyclamino radicals or halogen atoms. Representative of the coupling components specified are 1,3-dihydroxybenzene, 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydroxy - 8 - acetylaminonaphthalene, aminobenzenes substituted with such groups as 2-hydroxyethyl, cyanoethyl and hydroxyphenyl groups, 3-methyl, 1-phenyl-3-carbethoxy- and 1 - (2 - methylphenyl) - 3 - methylpyrazolones, hydroxyquinolines, imidazoles, 1,1,3 - trimethyl- and 2-methyl indolines and 2-phenylindole. Aminophenylhydrazones and their salts for use as starting materials are obtained by diazotizing aminonitro- or amino-acylaminobenzenes and coupling with methylene compounds of the general formula in which R1, R3 and R4 have the meanings given above, optionally treating the products with alkylating or aralkylating agents and converting the resulting nitro or acylamino compounds to the corresponding amino compounds by reduction or hydrolysis. Specified aminonitro- and aminoacylamino-benzenes include 1-amino-4-nitro- and 1 - amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - nitro - benzenes, 1 - amino - 4 - formylamino-, -3- and -4-acetylamino-, -4-oxalylamino- and -2,5-dimethoxy -4- acetylaminobenzenes. Examples are furnished. The dyes are especially suitable for dyeing synthetic fibres, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polyhexahydroterephthalyl terephthalate, polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile-vinyl acetate copolymers.

    Abstract: The invention comprises water-insoluble dyes of the formula in which X denotes an oxygen atom or a sulphur atom, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl radical, the 1-pyrrolidone radical or an amino group wherein one hydrogen atom is substituted by an acyl radical derived from a carboxylic acid or the carbomethoxy radical and R2 denotes a halogen atom, an alkyl radical, the 1-pyrrolidone radical or an amino group wherein one hydrogen atom is substituted by an acyl radical derived from a carboxylic acid, or the carbomethoxy radical. Such dyes are obtained by coupling tetrazotized 4,41-diaminodiphenyl-urea or -thiourea with appropriate phenols. The dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing cellulose esters, polyamides, polyurethanes and polyesters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate. Among the many coupling components specified in examples are 1-hydroxy - 4 - methyl benzene, a mixture of 1-hydroxy - 4 - methyl - and - 4 - acetamino benzenes, a mixture of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-and -3,4-dimethylbenzenes, a mixture of 1-hydroxy-4-methylbenzene and 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-pyrrolidone and a mixture of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-and 1 - hydroxy - 4 - carbomethoxyamino - aminobenzenes.

    Abstract: 4,41- Methenylbis-pyrazolones-5 are prepared by reacting 1 mol of a 5-pyrazolone with less than 1 mol of a dialkyl formamide, an alkyl-aryl-formamide or N-formyl-piperidine, and less than 1 mol of phosphorus oxychloride, thionyl chloride or phosgene. The pyrazolone may have a 1-phenyl substituent which itself may be substituted with a methyl, methoxy, nitro, sulpho, sulphonamido or chloro group. The 3-position of the pyrazolone may have a methyl, n-propyl, isopropyl. n-hexyl, dodecyl, heptadecyl, benzyl, phenyl, carbomethoxy or carbethoxy substituent. U.S.A.     Abstract: The invention comprises metal complexes which contain, bound to one chromium or cobalt atom, one to two radicals of formula where X1 is O or COO, R1 is H, Cl or NO2, R2 is H, NO2, MeSO2, EtSO2 or SO2NH2, R3 is H, Cl, Me, MeO, NO2, MeSO2, EtSO2, SO2NH2 or SO2NHMe, R4 is H or Cl and B is a 2-hydroxy-, 1-methyl-2-hydroxy-, 2-hydroxy-5-chlor-, 2-hydroxy-5,7-dichlor- or 2-hydroxy-5-nitro - indolyl - 3, 2 - hydroxy - or 2 - hydroxy - 5 - methyl - thio - naphthyl - 3, 2 - hydroxy - acenaphthyl - 1 or 9 - hydroxy - phenanthryl - 10 residue. The metal atoms may be combined with one radicle of the above formula and one of formula where Y is NO2 or SO2NH2 and Z is H or Cl. The metal complexes are made by conventional methods, the metal free dyes being obtained by reacting an appropriate phenyl hydrazine with a dioxo compound such as isatin, thionaphthenequinone-1,2 or acenaphthene-quinone-(1,2). The phenyl hydrazines are prepared in situ by reduction of corresponding diazo compounds. The dyes colour wool, polyamides and polyesters from a neutral to weakly acid bath. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes, red, green and blue shades being obtained.
