    Abstract: The invention comprises tetrazaporphin sulphonic acid amides to the nitrogen atom of which there are attached one or two ether radicals of the formula-X-O-Y in which X is an alkylene radical and Y is an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical, and a process for making them by reacting a tetrazaporphin sulphonic acid chloride with an amine to the nitrogen atom of which there are attached at least one hydrogen atom and one or two ether radicals of the formula -X-O-Y. The amines include those having one ether radical, one hydrogen atom and an alkyl group attached to the nitrogen. The tetrazaporphins include metal-free or metal phthalocyanines. The compounds are dyestuffs which colour organic liquids, lacquers, stains, metal foils, natural or synthetic resins, which spin-dye celluloid, cellulose esters or ethers or polyester resins and may be used in off-set printing.

    Abstract: A ball-pen paste comprises (1) a urea-formaldehyde condensate, (2) a low-volatile alcoholic solvent for the condensate (e.g. benzyl alcohol, diethylene glycol, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether or a mixture of benzyl alcohol and butanol) and (3) a salt-like dyestuff in which the cation of a basic dyestuff is combined with the anion of a phthalocyanine sulphonic acid.ALSO:Salt-like dyestuffs in which the cation of a basic dyestuff of the di- or triarylmethane series is combined with the anion of a phthalocyanine sulphonic acid are described. The dyestuffs may be made by reacting (a) a basic dyestuff of the di- or triarylmethane series, e.g. Auramine, Malachite Green, Crystal Violet, Methyl Violet, Victoria Pure Blue or Rhodamine B, or the carbinol bases of these dyestuffs with (b) a metal-containing or metal-free phthalocyanine mono-, di-, tri-or tetrasulphonic acid, or a salt thereof, or a reaction product thereof with an amount of alcohol insufficient for complete esterification. Reaction is effected at 0 DEG -70 DEG C., in the presence of water and/or an organic solvent (e.g. chloroform), and possibly an acid binding agent (e.g. sodium carbonate or a tertiary amine). Examples describe the preparation of dyestuffs from (1) Crystal Violet and the sodium salt of phthalocyanine trisulphonic acid; (2) Victoria Pure Blue and the sodium salt of phthalocyanine disulphonic acid. The dyestuffs are used in ball pen pastes (see Group IV(a)).

    Abstract: The invention comprises any ammonium salt derived from a 1 : 1 chromium complex of an azo or azomethine dye which contains a sulphonic acid group and a primary, secondary or tertiary amine whose nitrogen atom is substituted by an aliphatic radical containing at least one ether oxygen atom and which aliphatic radical may in turn have aromatic substitution. Among the amines specified for use in the process are 1-methoxy-3-aminopropane, 1 - benzyloxy - 2 - dimethylaminoethane, N - methylmorpholine and 1 - (b - ethyl - hexoxy) - 3 - aminopropane. Among processes described in examples are those in which the 1 : -chromium complex of the azo dye 6 - nitro - 2 - hydroxy - 1 - amino - naphthalene - 4 - sulphonic acid --> 2 - hydroxynaphthalene is boiled with 1-(b -ethyl-hexoxy)-3-aminopropane in aqueous ethanol; 4-nitro-2-aminophenol - 6 - sulphonic acid --> 1 - phenyl-3 - methyl pyrazolone - (5) is reacted with 1 - (b - ethyl - hexoxy) - 3 - aminopropane in aqueous formic acid and 4-nitro-2-aminophenol - 6 - sulphonic acid in aqueous solution is reacted with 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenz-aldehyde; the product is boiled with aqueous chromium chloride and the product is reacted with 1 - (b - ethylhexoxy) - 3 - amino propane in aqueous acetic acid solution.

    Abstract: The invention comprises an ammonium salt of a 1 : 2 cobalt or 1 : 2 chromium complex of an azo dye and/or an azo methine dye and a primary, secondary or tertiary aliphatic amine whose nitrogen atom is substituted by an aliphatic radical which contains at least one ether oxygen atom. The ammonium salts are prepared by reacting appropriate complexes and amines. Representative of the many amines specified are 1-methoxy-3-aminopropane, 1 - benzyloxy - 2 - dimethylaminoethane, 1-(b -acetoxyethoxy) - 2 - diisopropylaminoethane and N-methylmorpholine. The metal complex dyes may be free from sulphonic acid groups or bear 1 to 4 such groups. Representative of the many azo dyes specified are 1-amino-2-hydroxy-4 - nitrobenzene --> 3 - methyl - 1 - phenylpyrazolone, 2-aminobenzoic acid --> 1-phenyl-3-methylpyrazolone, 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxybenzene - 4 - sulphamide --> 2 - hydroxynaphthalene, 1 - amino - 2 - hydroxybenzene - 5-sulphonethylamide --> acetoacetanilide and of the azomethine dyes those obtained from 4-nitro - 2 - aminophenol and 3,5 - dichlor - 2 -hydroxybenzaldehyde or 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde. The products are soluble in organic solvents and or suitable for colouring nitrocellulose lacquers, anodized aluminium, cellulose ethers, polyester and polyamide resins and ester- and ketone-soluble vinyl chloride polymers.
