    Abstract: A process is claimed for the prodn. of impact-modified thermoplastics (I) by (a) mechanical dehydration of a moist elastomer component (A) contg. up to 60 wt% residual water and (b) mixing the dried elastomer obtd. (A') with a thermoplastic polymer (B) in a screw machine. The process is carried out in a twin screw extruder with synchronous double-threaded screws and with the following sequence in the direction of feed: (1) a metering section for introducing component (A) into the extruder via a metering device, (2) squeezing section(s) for removing the water, with accumulator element(s) and associated water outlet(s), (3) section(s) fitted with a feeder screw or with mixing, kneading and/or other plasticising elements, (4) section(s) in which polymer (B) is added as a melt, (5) section(s) fitted with mixing, kneading and/or other plasticising elements, (6) degassing section(s) with gas outlets, in which residual water is removed as vapour, and (7) a discharge zone. The water emerging from the outlets in section (2) is partly or completely in the liq. phase, and the extruder is operated at a screw speed of 50-600 r.p.m., with a mean shear rate of 20-240 s . Also claimed are impact-modified thermoplastic moulding materials (I) obtd. by this process.

    Abstract: Procedimiento para la preparacion de materiales termoplásticos modificados para tener una resistencia incrementada a los impactos mediante la mezcla de un componente elastomérico A humedo que contiene hasta 60% en peso de agua residual con un polímero termoplástico B así como polímero adicionales C y aditivos D en una máquina de tornillo sinfin bajo condicion de remocion mecánica de agua del componente elastomérico A, caracterizado porque los componentes A, B, C y D se alimentan a una extrusora de tornillos sinfin gemelos que giran en el mismo sentido, conformada en la direccion de alimentacion esencialmente de: cuando menos una seccion de dosificacion en la cual, por medio de un dispositivo de dosificacion, se alimenta a la extrusora y el componente elastomérico A; cuando menos una seccion de extraccion que sirve para la remocion de agua del componente A, que contiene cuando menos un elemento de retencion, así como cuando menos una abertura de remocion de agua correspondiente; cuando menos una seccion en la cual se alimenta el polímero termoplástico B a la extrusora en forma de fusion; cuando menos una seccion equipada con un elemento de mezclado, malaxacion y/u otros elementos de plastificacion; cuando menos una seccion de desgasificacion equipada con cuando menos un orificio de desgasificacion, en la cual el agua residual se elimina en forma de vapor; y una zona de salida porque el agua que sale por los orificios de remocion de agua se encuentra total o parcialmente en fase líquida, y porque los componentes C y/o D, junto o separadamente entre ellos con el componente A y/o con el componente B junto o separadamente de A y B se alimentan en una o varias de las secciones de la extrusora.
