    Abstract: In a process for producing a particulate polymer P with a mean particle diameter d50 from 0.1 to 50 mu m, an emulsion E is produced from one or more monomers M which can be polymerised into the polymer P by radical polymerisation, water and at least one protective colloid SK under high shearing forces, and the emulsion E is polymerised in a reactor by using a radical polymerisation initiator RI. The process is characterised in that maximum 75 wt % of the emulsion E ("initial proportion of E") are initially fed into the reactor before polymerisation begins, and in that at least 25 wt % of the emulsion E ("added proportion of E") are only fed into the reactor after the polymerisation begins.

    Abstract: Mouldings made of thermoplastic moulding masses contain (A) 30 to 99 wt %, relative to the total weight of the moulding mass, of a thermoplastic polymer, comprising, relative to (A): (a1) 50 to 100 wt % of a styrene compound of general formula (I), in which R and R stand for hydrogen or C1-C8 alkyl, or a (C1-C8-alkyl)ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid, or mixtures of the styrene compound and of the (C1-C8-alkyl)ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid; (a2) 0 to 40 wt % acryl nitrile or methacryl nitrile or their mixtures; and (a3) 0 to 40 wt % of one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers different from (a2); (b) 1 to 70 wt %, with respect to the total weight of the moulding mass, of a graft polymer comprising, relative to (B): (b1) 30 to 90 wt % of a rubber-elastic grafted core made of a polymer with a glass transition temperature below 0 DEG C and obtained by copolymerising (b11) 50 to 99.99 wt %, with respect to (b1), of a (C1-C10-alkyl)ester of acrylic acid; (b12) 0.01 to 10 wt % of a polyfunctional, cross-linking monomer; and (b13) 0 to 40 wt % of one or several others monoethylenically unsaturated monomers different from (b11); and (b2) 10 to 70 wt % of a grafted sheath which contains, relative to (b2): (b21) 50 to 100 wt % of a styrene compound of general formula (I), in which R and R stand for hydrogen or C1-C8-alkyl; or a (C1-C8-alkyl)ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid; or mixtures of the styrene compound and of the (C1-C8-alkyl)ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid; (b22) 0 to 40 wt % acryl nitrile or methacryl nitrile or their mixtures; and (b23) 0 to 40 wt % of one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding material of the following composition (I): (A) 30 to 97 weight % of a thermoplastic polyester or polyamide or of a mixture of said polymers, whereby said polymers or their mixture have a viscosity index greater than 165; (B) 3 to 40 weight % of an olefin polymerizate, comprised of (b1) 40 to 100 weight % of at least one alpha -olefin with 2 to 8 atoms of C, (b2) 0 to 50 weight % of a diene, (b3) 0 to 45 weight % of a primary or secondary C1 to C12 acrylic acid or methacrylic acid alkylester or mixtures of such esters, (b4) 0 to 40 weight % of an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or bicarboxylic acid and/or a functional derivative of such an acid, (b5) 0 to 40 weight % of a monomer containing epoxy groups, with the provision that the component (B) is not an olefin homopolymerizate and that it has a gel content no greater than 50 %; (C) 0 to 60 weight % of fillers in fibre or particle form, or mixtures thereof; and (D) 0 to 40 % of a flame protection agent; or of the following composition (II): (A) 20 to 99 weight % of a thermoplastic polyester or polyamide or of a mixture of said polymers; (D) 1 to 40 weight % of a flame protection agent; (B) 0 to 20 % of an olefin polymerizate; and (C) 0 to 60 weight % of fillers in fibre or particle form or mixtures thereof. Said thermoplastic moulding materials can be produced by thermal treatment of mixtures of a type (A) component (component A'), whose viscosity index is lesser than 160, with the remaining components, at temperatures between 60 DEG C below and 60 DEG C above the melting point of the pure component (A).

    Abstract: Reinforced thermoplastic molding materials containing, as essential components, (A) from 40 to 94 parts by weight of a polymer component of (a1) from 10 to 90% by weight of polyphenylene ether and (a2) from 10 to 90% by weight, based in each case on A, of a styrene polymer toughened with an acrylate rubber or with an unhydrogenated or hydrogenated polymer of a conjugated diene, (B) from 1 to 20 parts by weight of a copolymer of (b1) from 70 to 99.9% by weight of a monomer from the group consisting of styrene, alpha -methylstyrene and styrene alkylated in the nucleus or a mixture of these monomers, (b2) from 0.1 to 30% by weight of one or more compounds from the group consisting of tert-butyl acrylate and tert-butyl methacrylate, or one or more compounds from the group of compounds of the general formula I I where R1 is hydrogen or methyl and R2, R3 and R4 are each an alkyl or alkoxy group of not more than 4 carbon atoms, or of the general formula II II where n is an integer from 1 to 4 and R5, R6 and R7 are each one of the radicals stated for R2 or are each -O(CH2-CH2-O)mR8, where R8 is C1-C4-alkyl and m is 1, 2, 3 or 4, and (b3) from 0 to 10% by weight, based on the copolymer, of a further ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is copolymerizable with b1 and b2, and (C) from 5 to 50 parts by weight of a reinforcing agent, the number of parts by weight being based on 100 parts by weight of the sum of A, B and C, are prepared and used for the production of moldings.
