Abstract: Wholly aromatic polyesters which form a liquid-crystalline fiber-forming melt below 300 DEG C. and are composed of (a) from 10 to 25 mol % of repeat units of the formula I I (b) from 5 to 15 mol % of repeat units of the formula II II (c) from 5 to 15 mol % of repeat units of the formula III III (d) not less than 10 mol % of repeat units of the formula IV IV and (e) a molar amount corresponding to the total amount of (a), (b) and (c) of repeat units of the formula V V the molar proportions of components a, b, c, d and e adding up to 100 mol % in each case, the preparation thereof and fibers, films, moldings and surface coatings prepared therefrom.

Abstract: The polymer chain comprises (a) one or more monomers possessing a nematogenic, chiral or smectogenic group, or a mixture of monomers possessing a nematogenic group with those possessing a chiral group, and (b) one or more monomers possessing a radical of a pleochroic dye, and the nematogenic, the chiral and the smectogenic groups are bonded to the polymerizable group either directly or, like the dye radicals, via a spacer. The polymers can be used, together with low molecular weight liquid crystals or liquid crystal mixtures, in electrooptical displays.

Abstract: The invention relates to an impact-resistant moulding composition comprising A a terpolymer which contains, in copolymerised form, 88-40% by weight of ethylene, 10-50% by weight of n-butyl acrylate and 2-10% by weight of acrylic acid, and B a hard matrix (copolymer) built up from 95-75% by weight of styrene and 5-25% by weight of diethylaminoethyl acrylate, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate or N-vinyl imidazole, or mixtures thereof. Based on the moulding composition of A + B, the terpolymer A is present in an amount of 5-40% by weight and the copolymer B is present in an amount of 95-60% by weight.

Abstract: The invention relates to glass-clear, thermoplastic moulding compositions comprising (A) a polymer of vinyl chloride, (B) a copolymer made from (b1) a methylstyrene and (b2) acrylonitrile, and (C) optionally assistants and additives, characterised in that the moulding compositions contain, as component (B), a copolymer which contains, as the methylstyrene (b1), p-methylstyrene copolymerised in a certain amount. The result is moulding compositions having good heat distortion resistance and excellent optical transparency.
