Abstract: Flame-resistant polyurea foams having reducing evolution of smoke and fumes in the event of fire and advantageously having densities of from 5 to 15 kg/m are prepared by reacting organic polyisocyanates with water in the presence of catalysts, assistants, flameproofing additives and smoke-reducing additives. The smoke-reducing additives used are molybdenum compounds, such as, for example, molybdenum oxides, molybdic acid and molybdenum chlorides, metal oxides, such as, for example, copper(II) and/or molybdenum(VI) oxide, and preferably soluble organic metal compounds, such as, for example, copper naphthenate and/or copper oleate, expediently in amounts of from 3 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of organic polyisocyanate. The polyurea foams according to the invention are particularly useful for filling cavities in mining.

Abstract: Finely divided expansible styrene polymer particles, for the prodn. of foram mouldings, contain 0.0001-0.2 phr of a nucleating agent (I) in non-homogeneous distribution, (I) being situated only in a thin band at the surface of the particles and virtually absent in the interior. Mouldings obtd. from the particles can be demoulded after a short dwell-time in the mould, have very low thermal conductivity (due to the coarse internal pore structure), have good dimensional stability (i.e. no lateral depression) and have homogeneous density.
