    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference plate capable of improving whole visual filed angle characteristic of a liquid crystal panel of an inplane mode and a liquid crystal device provided with the same. SOLUTION: Discotic liquid crystal molecules 34 are arranged and fixed on a transparent planar body 33 to form a phase difference layer 31 and, meanwhile, the liquid crystal molecules 34 are arranged and fixed so that disk planes thereof are vertical or almost vertical to the facial direction of the transparent planar body 33 at the time of forming the phase difference layer 31. Thereby, the optical axis of the phase difference plate 3 having optically minus uniaxial anisotropy is made parallel or almost parallel to the facial direction thereof. Then, leakage light at the time of displaying black on the liquid crystal display panel in a mode in which the bar-shaped liquid crystal molecules are always parallel or almost parallel to the facial direction of a glass substrate is reduced by providing the phase difference plate 3 between a pair of glass substrates holding the bar-shaped liquid crystal molecules having positive uniaxial anisotropy and a pair of polarizing plates mounted on outer surfaces of the glass substrates.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power unit which can reduce losses during standby, and at the same time, can significantly reduce unnecessary power consumption during the standby on a system main body side. SOLUTION: A system controller 7 discriminates standby actual operation of a system main body and switches the oscillation frequency of a switching power unit. When the system main body is actually operated, the controller 7 impresses an 'L' level frequency switching signal CH upon an input terminal 12. When the signal CH is impressed upon the terminal 12, an output on/off circuit 18 is turned on and supplies a power Vo1 to a main body-side DC-DC converter 6. When the system main body is actually operated, the oscillating state by means of a triangular wave generating circuit OSC 3 becomes a high-frequency state. During the standby of the system main body, the controller 7 impresses an 'H' level signal upon the input terminal 12. When the 'H' level signal is impressed upon the terminal 12, the output on/off circuit 18 is turned off and the power supply to the system main body-side DC-DC converter 6 is interrupted. During this standby, the oscillating state by means of the OSC 3 becomes a low-frequency state.

By controlling the pattern height H of the reticle determined by the center exposure wavelength λ to satisfy the conditions to give the maximum influences of the coma aberration remaining in the projection optical system, minute coma aberration remaining in the projection optical system can be evaluated. Then by controlling the projection optical system based on the evaluation result, the completion degree of the projection optical system can be improved, and a high-resolution optical system can be obtd.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an alignment operation of high accuracy to be carried out without being affected by uneven application of resist by a method wherein a rugged pattern of high symmetry is preferentially selected out of rugged patterns, and position data as to the rugged patterns are detected resting on a picture image obtained by picking up the rugged pattern. SOLUTION: The position (center position) of a mark is detected through an optical system. At this point, the mark which is judged excellent in symmetry resting on its cross sectional shape is preferentially selected out of marks (S4), and the picture image of the selected alignment mark of high symmetry is picked up by an image sensing means provided in a detection system, and position data on the alignment mark are detected resting on the picture image picked up by the image sensing means (S5). A circuit pattern on a reticule and a wafer are aligned with each other through the detected position data as to the alignment mark (S6), and a circuit pattern is transferred onto the wafer by exposure (S7). After an exposure operation that is carried out for all shots is finished, the wafer is taken out from a movable stage (S8), and processing is finished.
