    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain particles having excellent particle size uniformity, sphericity and porosity at a low cost, by dissolving a cellulose fatty acid ester and a small amount of gelatinizing agent in a solvent, forming a droplet of the solution in an aqueous medium, gelatinizing the droplet with a coagulation promoter and separating the particle from the system. CONSTITUTION:A cellulose fatty acid ester and a gelatinizing agent for said cellulose fatty acid ester are dissolved in an organic solvent and the obtained solution is dripped into an aqueous medium under agitation to form liquid droplets. A coagulation promoter is added to the medium to convert the cellulose fatty acid ester in the droplet to a gel particle, from which the gelatinizing agent, the coagulation promoter and the solvent are removed. The organic solvent is a halogenated hydrocarbon containing a lower alcohol. The gelatinizing agent is a long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid, a long-chain aliphatic alcohol, etc., and the coagulation promoter is a lower alcohol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the rate of effective utilization of an expensive cationizing agent, by using a selected hydroxyalkylcellulose of an unsubstituted glucose content higher than a specified value in cationizing a hydroxyalkylcellulose. CONSTITUTION:A mixed medium consisting of a lower aliphatic alcohol (e.g., tert-butanol) and water and an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g., caustic soda) are reacted with cellulose to produce an alkali cellulose. An alkylene oxide (e.g., ethylene oxide) is reacted with the obtained alkali cellulose under suitably selected reaction conditions to produce a hydroxyalkylcellulose of an unsubstituted glucose content >=20mol%. The obtained hydroxyalkylcellulose is reacted with a cationizing agent (e.g., glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride) to obtain a cationized hydroxyalkylcellulose.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain the titled beads having excellent uniformity of particle size, sphericity and porosity, by dispersing an organic solvent solution of an organic acid ester of cellulose in an aqueous medium and charging the resultant droplet dispersion into a specific third solvent. CONSTITUTION:(A) A fatty acid ester of cellulose, preferably a cellulose di(tri) acetate is dissolved in (B) an organic solvent [preferably a halogenated hydrocar bon (e.g. methylene chloride) or a mixture of the hydrocarbon and a 1-10C aliphatic alcohol] to obtain a solution having a concentration of 3-15wt%. The solution is dispersed in (C) water or an aqueous medium produced by dis solving a water-soluble polymer (e.g. gelatin) in water at a concentration of 2-10wt%. A dispersion liquid containing small droplets and obtained by the above procedure is charged to (D) a third solvent which is miscible with the components B and C and is non-solvent of the component A (e.g. an aliphatic alcohol) and the obtained beads are washed to obtain the bead-like particles of the component A.

CONSTITUTION:Cellulose (e.g., wood pulp) is dispersed in 5-30pts.wt., per pt.wt. cellulose, lower aliphatic alcohol (e.g., t-butanol)/water solvent containing 1.0-3.0mol. of an alkali (e.g., NaOH) per mol of glucose residues of cellulose in a nitrogen stream to give an alkali cellulose, which is reacted with 2.5-5mol., per glucose residue, of an epoxy compound (e.g., ethylene oxide) in the presence of an alkali and further reacted with 0.1-0.9mol., per mol of the alkali metal hydroxide used, of a compound (e.g., 2-chloroethanol) which can react with an alkali to form an epoxy compound.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the malodor from raw garbage, by composing the title composition of a lower alcohol solution of a quaternary ammonium salt of polysaccharide carboxylic acid hardly soluble or insoluble in water. CONSTITUTION:A deodorizing composition is composed of a lower alcohol solution of a quaternary ammonium salt of polysaccharide carboxylic acid hardly soluble or insoluble in water. As the quaternary ammonium salt of polysaccharide carboxylic acid, a quaternary ammonium salt of carboxy methyl cellulose, a quaternary ammonium salt of alginic acid, a quaternary ammonium salt of carboxy methyl starch, a quaternary ammonium salt of carboxy methyl dextran or the like especially hardly soluble or insoluble in water and soluble in lower alcohol are designated. As lower alcohol, methanol, ethanol or isopropanol is proper. The proper concn. of the quaternary salt of polysaccharide carboxylic acid in the solution is 0.1-15wt.% but pref. 0.25-5wt.% from the aspect of effect and use easiness. Water may be contained in alcohol within a range exerting no effect of solubility and water may be contained at concn. of about 10wt.%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent an ink from bleeding upon recording, prevent the ink from bleeding even when a paper is wetted after recording and prevent a record from being lost, by incorporating a quaternary ammonium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose into recording paper. CONSTITUTION:A quaternary ammonium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) can be synthesized from sodium salt of CMC and a quaternary ammonium salt such as a quaternary ammonium halide salt. As CMC, one having a degree of substitution by carboxymethyl of at least 1.5, and preferably at least 2.0, is used. The quaternary ammonium salt may be a lauryltrimethylammonium salt, a cetyltrimethylammonium salt or the like, and the anion constituting the salt is suitably a halide ion such as chloride, bromide and fluoride ion, sulfate ion, nitrate ion, phosphate ion or the like. Recording paper comprising the quaternary ammonium salt of CMC can be produced by providing the paper with a solution of the salt in an organic solvent by spraying, coating, immersion or impregnation, followed by removing the solvent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To inexpensively produce the title particle which has uniformity in particle size, high sphericity and excellent porosity, by removing an org. solvent from aq. droplets of a W/O emulsion of a cellulose fatty acid ester to coagulate porous particles and saponifying the particles. CONSTITUTION:A cellulose fatty acid ester (e.g., cellulose triacetate) is dissolved in an org. solvent immiscible with water (e.g., methylene chloride, etc.) and a small amount of water is added thereto with stirring to form a W/O emulsion. The emulsion is added to an aq. medium to form aq. droplets of the W/O emulsion. The org. solvent is removed from the droplets to coagulate the cellulose ester as porous particles. The particles are saponified by adding an aq. soln. of an alkali to obtain cellulose particles. Since any heat treatment is not required and the solvent to be used can be chosen from among inexpensive general-purpose solvents, cellulose particles can be inexpensively produced. Further, the cellulose particles are porous and have a high void volume so that the particles are suitable for use in the fields of cosmetics, carrier for gel permeation chromatography, etc.

CONSTITUTION:A cellulose org. acid ester (a) (e.g., cellulose triacetate) and 5-30vol% [based on the amount of the component (c)] gelling agent (b) for the component (a), selected from the group consisting of long-chain aliph. carboxylic acids and alcohols and aliph. esters of arom. carboxylic acids are dissolved in a water-insoluble org. solvent (c) such as methylene chloride or a mixture thereof with a small amount of methanol to obtain an org. solvent soln. (A). The component A is added to an aq. medium (B) such as water or a soln. of 0.2-10wt% water-soluble high-molecular material and/or 0.05-3wt% surfactant, etc. in water to form liquid droplets. The component (a) in the liquid droplets is caused to gel and the components (b) and B are removed from the formed spherical gel particles.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a cosmetic having cleaning effect, peeling effect or massaging effect, by compounding porous spherical cellulose having specific particle diameter and bulk density. CONSTITUTION:A porous spherical cellulose having particle diameter of 0.1-1.0mm and bulk density of 0.1-0.7g/cc is compounded to a cosmetic (excluding powdery cosmetic) such as face lotion, creams and packs in an amount of 0.1-50wt.%, preferably 1-20wt.% based on whole cosmetic composition. Stains in pores, aged horny layer and sebum, etc., resistant to be removed with soap alone can be removed by the above fine particles having moderate hardness and elasticity. The circulation of blood can be improved and the metabolism of skin can be promoted by the massaging effect of the particles. Accordingly, the cosmetic is expected to have preventive and remedying effect to spots. The cosmetic is safe and can be produced by utilizing easily available natural material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent armpit odor, by applying a composition containing a specific compound as an active component to armpit by spraying, etc., thereby absorbing sweat of armpit and deodorizing the smell emitted from the armpit. CONSTITUTION:The composition used in the present process contains a cellulose glycolate quaternary ammonium salt such as cetylpyridinium salt, benzetonium salt, methylbenzetonium salt, dodecyldimethylbenzylammonium salt, tetradecyl dimethylbenzylammonium salt, etc., as an active component. The composition is powder having dry feeling, high adhesivity to the skin and relatively mild microbicidal activity to enable continuous use without causing side effects. The action of bacteria decomposing sweat and generating foul smell can be terminated by the bactericidal action of the above compound and the smell of armpit can be effectively prevented by spraying or coating the above composi tion to armpit. The amount of the above active component in the composition is preferably 0.5-5wt.%. The agreeable feeling of the composition can be further improved by compounding the composition with a sweat absorbent and a lubri cant.
