Abstract: A peristaltic pump is disclosed. The peristaltic pump comprises a tube platen; and a plunger (see 3091, figure 277) configured to actuate toward the tube platen (3022). An end of the plunger has a rounded end and a bottom of the tube platen has a generally U shape that provides a radial gap between the plunger and the tube platen about equal to two to three times a wall thickness of an infusion tube. The rounded shapes of the plunger tip and tube platen avoid compressing the walls of the infusion line (3210), thereby reducing the compressive load on the plunger (see also paragraph [00943]).

Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for regulating fluid flow are disclosed. The apparatus includes a flow rate sensor and a valve. The flow rate sensor uses images to estimate flow through a drip chamber and then controls the valve based on the estimated flow rate. The valve comprises a rigid housing disposed around the tube in which fluid flow is being controlled. Increasing the pressure in the housing controls the size of the lumen within the tube by deforming the tube, therefore controlling flow through the tube. 18722089_1 (GHMatters) P101057.AU.3

Abstract: A method for discharging fluid from a syringe and for mitigating occlusion conditions includes actuating the plunger of a syringe into a barrel. The method monitors fluid pressure within the barrel of the syringe and determines that an occlusion exists when the fluid pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold. The method actuates the plunger out of the barrel by a predetermined amount in response to the detected occlusion and actuates the plunger of the syringe into the barrel until a measured fluid pressure within the barrel of the syringe exceeds another predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus for electronic patient care are disclosed. The methods, systems and apparatus include a medical device which may communicate with other components of the methods, systems and apparatus. Such methods, systems and apparatus may assist in the reduction of medication errors and provide improved patient monitoring, for example to allow for monitoring of signals or signal patterns from a medical sensor to provide improved detection of potential health issues. A preferred system for electronic patient care comprises a first medical sensor configured to couple to a patient and measure a physiological parameter of the patient; a second medical sensor configured to couple to the patient and measure a second physiological parameter of the patient; a medical device configured to operatively receive the measured first and second physiological parameters from the first and second medical sensors, and communicate the measured physiological parameters; and a server in operative communication with the medical device, wherein the server is configured to: detect a first pattern using the first measured physiological parameter; detect a second pattern using the second measured physiological parameter; and determine a medical condition exists when the first and second patterns are detected within a predetermined amount of time relative to each other; wherein the server is configured to detect the first and second patterns without regard to a scale of the first and second measured physiological parameters.
