Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing aldehydes by hydroformylation of olefinically unsaturated compounds with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in a homogeneous phase in the presence of a catalyst system comprising organometallic complex compounds and ligands of these complex compounds in molar excess, and separating off the catalyst system from the hydroformylation reaction mixture by pressure filtration on a semipermeable membrane of an aromatic polyamide. In this process, the molar mass ratio of the ligands present in excess to the aldehydes prepared is 9-30, preferably 10-25, in particular 10-15, with the ligands present in excess not being alkylammonium or arylammonium salts of sulfonated, carboxylated or phosphonated aromatic diphosphines. By maintaining the molar mass ratio, not only are high activation and selectivity values obtained in the hydroformylation itself, but also excellent retention values for the catalyst system are obtained in the membrane filtration step.

Abstract: Hydroformylation of olefinically unsaturated compounds is carried out as follows. (a) The olefinic compounds are reacted in a heterogeneous reaction system with an aqueous solution containing water-soluble complexes of rhodium compounds and organic phosphorus (III) compounds as catalysts, at 0.4-10 MPa; and (b) the exhaust gas produced is subjected to a second reaction, in which residual olefinically unsaturated compounds still present in the gas are converted in a homogeneous reaction system in the presence of complex compound of Rh with organic P(III) compounds as catalysts at 15-40 MPa.

Abstract: Mixtures of isomeric decyl alcohols are obtained by hydroformylation of 1-butene- and 2-butene-containing mixtures in two stages to give aldehyde mixtures, condensation of the isolated and combined aldehyde mixtures to form an aldol mixture, and isolation and hydrogenation of the aldol mixture. The mixture of isomeric decyl alcohols, esterified with phthalic acid, gives a mixture of isomeric decyl phthalates which are useful as plasticizers.

Abstract: The sulfonation of arylphosphines, i.e. mono-, di-, oligo- and polyphosphines which contain at least one aromatic radical capable of being sulfonated, is carried out according to the invention in the presence of a Lewis acid. The novel process avoids side-reactions, in particular the formation of phosphine oxides. In working up the sulfonation mixture the Lewis acid can be removed together with the sulfuric acid.
