Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I), by reacting monomers of formula (D) and/or (E) together with monomers (F) and (G) at 120-300 deg.C, followed by solvolysis of anhydride gps.:

Abstract: Salts of copolymers of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid derivatives. The present invention relates to salts of copolymers of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and ethylenically unsaturated fatty acid derivatives comprising (A) 1 - 99% by weight of structural units A of the formula in which R1 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R2 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R3 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, preferably methyl, X is -(CH2)0-10- or C6-C18-aryl, preferably phenyl, and M is an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium ion, (B) 99 - 1% by weight of structural units B of the formula in which R4 is C2-C16-alkyl or C2-C16-alkenyl, Y is C1-C13-alkylene, -CH2-(CH=CH-CH2)1-5- or -(CH=CH)1-3 - and Z is a group of the formula CN, C(O)N(R5)2, in which R5 is hydrogen, C1-C18-alkyl, C1-C18-alkenyl and/or (CH2)1-3-OH, COOR6, in which R6 is C1-C36-alkyl, preferably C1-C18-alkyl or C16-C36-alkyl, , , or , (C) 0 - 40% by weight of structural units C of the formula in which R1, R2 and R3 have the abovementioned meaning and W is a group of the formula CN, C(O)N(R5)2, in which R5 has the abovementioned meaning, or COOR7, in which R7 is C1-C18-alkyl, preferably C1-C10-alkyl and (D) 0 - 40% by weight of structural units D of the formula in which V is C6-C19-aryl, preferably phenyl, or phenoxy acetyl, C4-C6-lactam, preferably N-pyrrolidyl, a group of the formula O-R7, in which R7 is C1C18-alkyl, preferably C1-C10-alkyl, a group of the formula (O)C-R7 or a group of the formula OOC-R7. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of these copolymers and to the utilization thereof.
