    Abstract: 1397957 Detergents containing builders HOECHST AG 14 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 42706/72 Heading C5D [Also in Division C2] Builders for detergent and cleansing agents comprise water-soluble salts of acid carboxylic acid esters prepared by reacting at least trivalent, 6-10C, aliphatic olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids or hydroxy-carboxylic acids with aliphatic alcohols (3-6 OH groups), and in which each hydroxylic group of the alcohol and optionally the hydroxycarboxylic acid is esterified with a carboxylic acid molecule. Citric, aconitic, tricarballylic, dihydroxy-tricarballylic, nitrotriacetic and ethylenediamine-tetracetic acids may be used with glycerol, erythritol, pentaerythritol, mannitol, sorbitol or sugar alcohol (4-6 C) and the salts are of alkali metal or ammonium ion. A proportion of 10-80% by weight of salts may be used and then ion-active and/or non-ionic tensides and further conventional additives may be present. Examples describe the use of builders prepared from glycerol, sorbitol or pentaerythritol with nitric acid used with dodecylbenzene sulphonate, tallow fatty alcohol and hardened tallow soap, and also with additional magnesium silicate, sodium silicate, sodium perborate, sodium sulphate and tylose in detergent wash liquors.

    Abstract: The invention provides novel oligomers and/or polymers containing carboxylic and hydroxylic groups - the latter groups being partially lactonized, if desired - and a predominant proportion of C-C bonds in their principal chain. The oligomers and/or polymers are produced by hydrolyzing halogenated copolymers which have substantially between 5 and 60 weight % of halogen therein and a principal chain based on structural units, in any desirable sequential arrangement, of the following general formulae I and II or I and III in which X, Y and Z stand for a hydrogen and/or halogen atom with the proviso that at least one of the X, Y and Z substituents stands for a halogen atom, R stands for a carboxyhalide radical, a carboxylic group, ester group, nitrile group or anhydride group, and the mole fraction m stands for a number greater than zero and smaller than 1.

    Abstract: 1342857 Aldehydes; carboxylic anhydrides KNAPSACK AG 4 Aug 1972 [12 Aug 1971] 36577/72 Heading C2C Aliphatic aldehydes and carboxylic anhydrides are jointly prepared by passing a vaporous mixture of an aliphatic carboxylic acid alkenyl ester of up to 7C, and aliphatic carboxylic acid of up to 4C and, optionally, an inert gas at 250‹ to 500‹ C., under pressure if desired, over an acid catalyst consisting of silicic acid, an acid aluminosilicate or an inert carrier (e.g. Al 2 O 3 , pumice or active carbon) impregnated with H 3 PO 4 or one or more heteropolyacids. The silicic acid or aluminosilicate may also be thus impregnated. The catalyst may also contain PdCl 2 . Examples react vinyl acetate and acetic acid to give acetaldehyde, acetic anhydride (and acetone by-product), allyl acetate and acetic acid to give propionaldehyde and acetic anhydride, and vinyl propionate and propionic acid to give acetaldehyde and propionic anhydride.
