Abstract: 1355990 Biologically purifying effluents KNAPSACK AG 16 Nov 1971 [5 Dec 1970] 53134/71 Heading C1C [Also in Divisions B1 and G1] The escape of foam from a closed reactor 1 having a mechanical defoaming means 7 therein is inhibited by continuously regulating within a predetermined range the foam pressure prevailing above the liquid phase, by modifying the level of the liquid phase between upper and lower levels 10, 11 through automatic adjustment of the valves 4, 5 controlling the inlet and outlet lines 2, 3 for liquid. The apparatus also includes a gas admission tube 6, a hollow driving shaft 8 of the defoamer 7, which serves as an outlet for gas, and a control system 9 arranged to actuate valves 4, 5 in response to signals from the pressure meter (PC) and level meter (LC). The method is applicable particularly to aerobic fermentation, for example the microbiological purification of effluents, involving intensive foam formation varying at irregular intervals.

Abstract: A carrier-supported catalyst is prepared by applying a noble metal on to a ceramic honeycomb structure coated with an aluminum oxide layer. To this end, the ceramic honeycomb structure is impregnated with an aqueous solution containing nitrilotriacetic acid or ethylenediaminotetraacetic acid, ammonia and at least one noble metal compound.

Abstract: Device for holding a granular catalyst suitable for use in the decontamination of the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a housing which comprises a jacket closed by means of end plates and which is provided with a gas inlet and gas outlet, and which has disposed therein a sleeve having an annular cross-section and having perforated walls, this sleeve being disposed substantially concentrically with respect to the gas inlet. In the device at least one end-plate-facing terminal portion of the sleeve, and also the lateral wall of the sleeve, are slidably mounted relative to the jacket of the housing, so as to accommodate axial relative movements.
