Abstract: An apparatus, program product, and method that track where particular users are browsing within a multi-user computer environment, and provide such information to one or more users within the environment to permit greater interactivity among the users. By enabling users to identify and interact with other users in a browsing environment, users may be permitted to access lists of favorite documents, home pages, navigational histories, etc. of other users while browsing to facilitate the dynamic location and retrieval of useful information. Also, users may be permitted to directly communicate with one another while browsing, e.g., via electronic messages, real-time discussions, etc.

Abstract: A portable phone is equipped with a position detector that detects the geographical position of the portable phone, and a telephone system may ring one or more land-based phones or portable phones according to the geographical position of the portable phone. One or more geographical regions are defined, with corresponding telephone parameters defined for each region. When a portable phone enters a defined region, exits a defined region, or changes between two defined regions, the function of one or more land-based phones or portable phones may change. The preferred embodiments thus allow changing the function of one or more other phones based on the self-detected geographical position of a portable phone. In this manner the convenience of using portable phones is greatly enhanced.

Abstract: A portable phone is equipped with a position detector that detects the geographical position of the portable phone, and the function of the phone can be changed according to its geographical position. One or more "regions" may be defined by the user of the portable phone, and the ring parameters for each region may be set independently of the other regions. In this manner a phone in accordance with the preferred embodiments may ring with one tone at home, ring with a different tone at work, ring with a louder volume when on a job site, not ring at all when in church, and ring with a vibration when at the theatre. In addition, the preferred embodiments include a dialler that allows selecting a contact from a text list, and that dials a number that depends on the geographical position of the portable phone, or that dials a number and sends with the call the geographical position of the portable phone. The preferred embodiments further allow assigning a telephone number to a defined geographical region, and ringing the portable phone only when within the geographical region that corresponds to the phone number.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for locating and selecting hypertext links allows a web user to select a web page, then quickly and efficiently locate and select any hypertext link on the web page. A web user simply navigates to a web page and scrolls through the web page using the slider on the scroll bar. As the web user scrolls through the page, each link that appears on the screen is displayed in one of several predefined colors with no two adjacent links being displayed in the same color. When a given hypertext link is within the range of the slider on the scroll bar, this link becomes the current or active link and the slider on the scroll bar changes to a color which corresponds to the color of the link. The color change provides a visual cue to the user that the current or active link can now be selected. In addition, when the slider changes color, a link display on the menu bar of the web browser may be used to display the title of the current or active link as indicated by an HTML tag in the web page corresponding to the link. As long as the slider remains the color corresponding to the link and the link display shows the title of the active link, the user can select the link by simply pressing the right button of the mouse or using some other selection method.

Abstract: The present invention uses three separate methods to provide the user with sounds that help the user understand where a particular current position is relative to an "location of interest" (LOI) within the viewable object. First, the user is able to use sound marks to mark specific LOIs within viewable objects so that the user may return to those LOIs at a later time. Second, the user is provided with view regions which aurally indicate the LOI of frequently used portions of the viewable object. Lastly, the user is given an aural indication of the current position of the position identifier relative to the viewable object as a whole. This is called relational positioning. Each type of aural LOI indication can be presented to the user regardless of how the user is moving through the viewable object.

More specifically, windows are displayed on the display screen having a window size proportional to the length of time each of the window were active. For example, a window that was active 40% of the time will have a size that is 40% of the specified window tiling area. Windows that have not been active long enough to exceed a minimum window tiling threshold are displayed as icons and are not included in the calculations of percentage of activity of the windows.

Abstract: A color contrast adjuster is disclosed that automatically selects and applie s a new color combination for text and background based on the current color combination f or the text and background, if the current color combination is a problem color combination. The text can be any text object (such as a hypertext link, bold text, underline text, groups of text, etc.) and the background can be any background object whose color can be determined (such as a solid color, a button, a global interchange format file, etc.). Additionally, the color contrast adjuster can store multiple problem and preferred color combinations for each user. The color contrast adjuster can replace a problem color combination with a preferred color combination. Furthermore, the color contrast adjuster can provide example color combinations to a user, allow th e user to select a better color combination, and add this preferred and problem combination to a user preferences. This allows the color contrast adjuster to adapt to additional problem color combinations. The color contrast adjuster can also provide the user with an indication of previous colors for objects whose color has been changed. This option is useful if the user is to select an object based on the color of the object.
