Abstract:
A load balancer detects a server failure, and sends a failure notification message to the remaining servers. In response, one or more of the remaining servers may autonomically adjust their configuration parameters, thereby allowing the remaining servers to better handle the increased load caused by the server failure. One or more of the servers may also include a performance measurement mechanism that measures performance before and after an autonomic adjustment of the configuration parameters to determine whether and how much the autonomic adjustments improved the system performance. In this manner server computer systems may autonomically compensate for the failure of another server computer system that was sharing the workload.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize overhead process for a server connected to the Internet or other client-server environment. SOLUTION: This device, a program product and a method are provided for optimizing dialogues between the client and the server via an active document for effectively transferring, for example data formatting operation and data verification operation from the server to the client by changing a program code on the server side and performing a portable operation by preparing the active document. Abstract:
Abstract:
An apparatus, program product and method display an advertisement on at least a portion of a scroll bar. Doing so permits advertisements to be presented to users with reduced impact on the available space on a computer display, thereby maximizing usage of the computer display and limiting any potential associated negative impacts on user productivity.

Abstract:
An apparatus, program product and method dynamically adjust the scroll rate used to scroll through the program information for various television programs available to a television viewer to provide a variable rate of scroll for program information presented to the television viewer. The scroll rate may be varied, for example, to emphasize certain program information relative to other program information, e.g., by slowing down the scroll rate to increase the visibility for important program information and speeding up the scroll rate to decrease the visibili ty of less important program information. Dynamic scroll rate adjustment may be utilized in a number of situations, including in connection with non-interactive electronic program listings, interactive electronic program guides, and electronic overlays, among others. Furthermore, dynamic scroll rate adjustment may be based upon a number of different characteristics of the television programs associated with the displayed program information, including for example, the frequency of access of different television programs, or sponsorship of certain television programs.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus within an integrated development environment to increase the efficiency of tracking changes made to source code. The method and apparatus comprise three modes: a constructor mode, a matchmaker mode, and an announcer mode. The constructor first determines what source code/programming constructs are contained within an executable sequence of instructions, evaluates the size of the constructs, and then parses the tokens of the constructs to construct a construct list. The matchmaker determines the degree of similari ty between any two constructs in the construct list. If the degree of similarity is sufficient, that is, if the sequence of code between two constructs is so similar that the sections of code may be considered as related and/or derivatives of one another, the matchmaker then determines if any changes ma de to one section of code may impact the other construct by weighting the changed tokens between the two sets of code. If the change is deemed significant, then the announcer takes over and determines if the developer who owns the related/derived code will be notified that a change has occurre d in the first code.
Abstract:
A portable phone is equipped with a position detector that detects the geographical position of the portable phone, and the function of the phone can be changed according to its geographical position. One or more "regions" may be defined by the user of the portable phone, and the ring parameters for each region may be set independently of the other regions. In this manner a phone in accordance with the preferred embodiments may ring with one tone at home, ring with a different tone at work, ring with a louder volume when on a job site, not ring at all when in church, and ring with a vibration when at the theatre. In addition, the preferred embodiments include a dialler that allows selecting a contact from a text list, and that dials a number that depends on the geographical position of the portable phone, or that dials a number and sends with the call the geographical position of the portable phone. The preferred embodiments further allow assigning a telephone number to a defined geographical region, and ringing the portable phone only when within the geographical region that corresponds to the phone number.
Abstract:
A system and method is provided for inserting into a display material copied to a clipboard. A user selects material to be copied the clipboard. The system selects and copies to the clipboard additional material. The user selects an insertion point for the user selected material, and the system displays to the user the user selected material and selective additional material. The system selected material is, in accordance with a more specific embodiment, that material which is needed to render the user selected material syntactically correct in the context of the insertion point.
Abstract:
The device for processing book-mark occurrences has at least one processor connected to a memory/store containing web-browser applications carried out by the processor, where the web-browser indicates an actual web-page. A book mark occurrence processing is contained in the web-browser and automatically carries out at least one given function after a book-marking mechanism has been used in the web-browser for book-marking the actual web-page.
