    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for identifying a traffic pattern, deciding a course, or determining a traffic jam, by using a known navigation system using identified information. SOLUTION: This computer system is used for deciding an appropriate course by determining a traffic pattern and traffic jam, by using the determined traffic pattern and traffic jam, and by using the global positioning system(GPS) and a related route map calculator. A vehicle is equipped with an on-vehicle computer system adapted to determine traveling time of the vehicle for each road section and to compute the course based on this information. A distributed network can be provided wherein this information is delivered to other vehicles or can be shared with other vehicles by other methods, and similar information is received from other vehicles to generate and share experienced traffic patterns. Also, a traffic pattern can be forecast by using this information.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for distinctively displaying windows on a computer display screen is disclosed. The amount of time each of the windows presented to the display screen is active (also known as "in focus") is monitored. Upon receipt of a command from the user, the windows that were active a longer length of time are displayed more distinctively than windows that were active a shorter length of time. Active windows can be displayed more distinctively in many different ways. One such way is by placing the most active window in the upper left corner of the screen and placing the rest of the windows in a descending order of activity from left to right and top to bottom on the screen. Another way is to cascade the windows, where the windows are cascaded in a descending order of activity from the front to the back of the window stack. Yet another way is to generate a list of window titles associated with each window, in a descending order of activity from the top of the list to the bottom of the list. Still another way of distinctively displaying more active windows is to put the most active window in focus, and then put the remainder of the windows in focus in descending order of activity in a toggle sequence of windows.

The preferred embodiments further allow assigning a telephone number to a defined geographical region, and ringing the portable phone only when within the geographical region that corresponds to the phone number.

    Abstract: The present invention uses three separate methods to provide the user with sounds that help the user understand where a particular current position is relative to an "location of interest" (LOI) within the viewable object. First, the user is able to use sound marks to mark specific LOIs within viewable objects so that the user may return to those LOIs at a later time. Second, the user is provided with view regions which aurally indicate the LOI of frequently used portions of the viewable object. Lastly, the user is given an aural indication of the current position of the position identifier relative to the viewable object as a whole. This is called relational positioning. Each type of aural LOI indication can be presented to the user regardless of how the user is moving through the viewable object.
