Abstract:
A servo system and method position a head laterally with respect to magnetic tape longitudinal defined servo bands arranged in a longitudinally shifted pattern for identification, and separated by data tracks. A servo controller responds to a loss of lateral position, sensing an estimated longitudinal position of the magnetic tape. If the estimated longitudinal position is within a predetermined distance of an end of the tape, the servo controller operates a drive to continuously move the tape away from the sensed end. The servo controller senses a home lateral position sensor to determine whether a compound actuator is within a predetermined distance of the edge of the magnetic tape. If so, it operates the coarse actuator portion of the compound actuator to move laterally away from the edge of the magnetic tape; else, to move toward the edge. The servo controller senses a dual servo sensor to detect any two of the defined servo bands; and, upon sensing any two of the defined servo bands, detects the longitudinal shift to identify which ones of the two defined servo bands have been detected.
Abstract:
A method and position control for a servo system for positioning a head laterally with respect to defined servo tracks. The servo system comprises a servo sensor and detector for sensing lateral position of the head and a compound actuator having a fine actuator portion and a coarse actuator portion. The position control provides position indications for the coarse actuator portion, which may comprise a table relating predetermined nominal lateral position indications to the defined servo tracks. The position control positions the coarse actuator portion at an estimated position with respect to the defined servo tracks, and responds to the servo sensor to determine which servo track is closest to the estimated position. The position control sets the coarse actuator portion position indication to the predetermined nominal lateral position indication of the closest defined servo track, e.g., by looking it up in the table. This thereby corrects the indication of the position of the coarse actuator portion.
Abstract:
A system and method for precisely registering and synchronizing data sets on a recording media having a prerecorded servo pattern. The recording media is subject to continuing movement for reading and/or writing the data sets, interrupted by stopping at the end of a selected data set and restarting. During the continuing movement of the recording media, a detector coupled to the servo system continuously reads linear position registration data modulated into the prerecorded servo pattern. An interpolator interpolates the prerecorded registration data to provide precision registration information for the data sets. Upon the drive stopping the recording media, then back hitching the media and the movement restarting, selected read and interpolated registration information is provided. The detector again reads and interpolates the prerecorded registration data, and a comparator compares the again read and interpolated registration information to the provided read and interpolated registration information and any predetermined offset, and indicates a comparison match. A data formatter coupled to the comparator, responsive to the comparison match indication, synchronizes the reading and/or writing of data sets on the recording media.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a digital edge processor frequency control for estimating the center frequency of a recorded signal having a known format, such as data recorded on a CLV optical disk or on magnetic tape. The read channel includes a sampling detector which samples the recorded signal at a known rate to provide edge position signals (PAT) indicating the location of recorded pulse edges. An edge pattern identifier detects whether the edge signals of the recording signal match a predetermined element of the known format. Examples of predetermined elements include a pulse of a known length and whose edges are spaced a known distance, a predetermined pulse pattern, or a pulse or pattern at a known location. An interval counter is coupled to the pattern identifier for measuring the interval length between the edges of the matching pulse or pattern in units of the sample length. A center frequency estimator calculates the period of the center frequency of the matching edges by relating the matching edge interval length to a predetermined nominal wave length for the predetermined element of the known format. The result is a Tau that is used to establish the center frequency for the digital PLL.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for facilitating the management of an attachment file attached to electronic mail. SOLUTION: When receiving electronic mail with an attachment file, a client device acquires attachment position information in the electronic mail text, and stores this in association with the identifier of the electronic mail. When receiving an instruction to do electronic mail display or the like from a user, the client device arranges graphics showing the attachment file of the electronic mail on a child screen to be displayed by reducing the screen of a parent screen for displaying electronic mail based on the corresponding attachment position information, and displays the child screen together with the parent screen. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for selecting the optimum storage device among the plurality of storage devices as the copy or movement source of data. SOLUTION: A controller for connecting the different kinds of storage devices includes: a performance information storage part for storing performance information of each storage device; a list storage part for storing the list of data in each storage device; a monitor part for monitoring the load states of each storage device and the controller; a detecting part; an estimating part; and a determining part. When data is copied, etc., with respect to a certain storage device, the detecting part detects the storage devices for storing the data to be copied, based on the list. The estimating part estimates copying time with respect to the detected each storage device, based on performance information and load information. The determining part determines the storage device to be the copy source, based on the estimation result. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frequency controlling device with digital edge processor for estimating center frequencies of recorded signals having known formats of data recorded on a CLV optical disk or a magnetic tape or the like. SOLUTION: A read-in channel 110 includes a sampling detector 118 which supplies an edge position signal (PAT) indicating positions or recorded pulse edges by sampling a recorded signal at a known rate. An edge pattern identifying device being in a frequency controlling device 65 detects whether the edge signal of the recorded signal matches a presribed element of known format or not. There are, for example, a pulse having a prescribed length in which edges are opened with a prescribed interval, a prescribed pulse pattern or a pulse or a pattern having a known position in examples of the prescribed elements. An interval counter is connected to the pattern identifying device and measures the length of the interval between edges of a coincident pulse or pattern by making the length of a sample a unit.
