Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a dermatic drug for external application effective in increasing water-retainability of corneum and ameliorating chapped skin, by using a specific amide derivative as essential component. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains a compound of formula I (R is 8-24C straight or branched-chain hydrocarbon group; R is 9-25C straight or branched-chain hydrocarbon group) [e.g. N-(2-hydroxyhexadecyl)-N-2- hydroxyethyloctadecanamide]. Preferably, the amount of the compound is 0.001-50wt.%, especially 0.1-20% for emulsion-type external drug and 1-50%, especially 5-25% for oil-based external drug for skin. It is preferable to compound 0.001-20% surfactant (especially nonionic surfactant). The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting an alpha-olefin epoxy compound with ethanolamine, acylating the obtained compound of formula II with a fatty acid chloride of formula R COCl and selectively hydrolyzing the ester group of the resultant compound of formula III.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a skin external preparation capable of raising water retaining power of keratin, improving and preventing chapped skin, containing a specific amide derivative having fundamentally improving effects on water retaining ability of keratin layer, further preferably a surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic containing preferably about 1-20wt.% amide derivative shown by formula I [R is 8-26C hydrocarbon; R is 9-25C hydrocarbon; R is H, CH3, PhCH2, (CH3)2CH, (CH3)2CHCH2, C2H5(CH3)CHCH2, HOCH2, CH3(HO)CH, CH3SCH2CH2, YOCOCH2 (Y is H, Li, Na or K) or group shown by formula II; X is O or CH2]. The cosmetic is preferably further mixed with a surface active agent, especially 0.1-5wt.% nonionic surface active agent. The cosmetic is useful as a skin cosmetic such as cream, milky lotion, toilet lotion, lipstick, foundation, skin cleaner, hair tonic, hair dressing agent, hair nourishing agent and hair growing agent.
