Abstract: The present invention relates to a Vestigial Side Band (VSB) Digital Television (DTV) in agreement with the DTV standards (A/53) of the Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC), and to a method thereof. More particularly, it provides 4-VSB DTV transceiver that improves reception performance of a receiver by transmitting and receiving dual streams formed of normal data and robust data without increasing average power, regardless of a mixing ratio of the normal and robust data. The 4-VSB DTV transceiver of the present research includes an encoding unit for encoding the robust data to be mapped to one of two groups having 4 levels {-5, -3, 1, 7} and {-7, -1, 3, 5}.

Abstract: The conventional decision feedback equalizer has a drawback that can't decide symbols correctly because a simple slicer is used as a symbol detector. A decision feedback equalizer as a symbol detector uses a Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) decoder whose Trace Back depth is 1 (TBD=1), to thereby decide symbols correctly without decoding delay.

Abstract: Provided are a multi-display supporting multi-view video object-based encoding apparatus and method, and an object-based transmission/reception system and method using the encoding apparatus and method. The encoding apparatus includes: a shape abstracting means for receiving right/left-eye image object video and abstracting right/ left object image, respectively, to abstract the shape information of a multi-view video; a data separating means for receiving the right/left-eye image object video, and the right/left shape information, and separating them into odd-field objects and even field objects to transmit only the essential bit streams for a user display mode; a shape compensation means for compensating for the distortion of the shape information separated into odd and even fields; and an object-based encoding means for receiving the object-based information from the shape compensation means and the object-based information from the data separating means, forming four layers, and performing motion and disparity estimation to encode object-based data that are separated into odd and even lines.

Abstract: In a channel equalizer applicable to a digital television receiver, a forwar d filter and a backward filter perform filtering to an input signal and a predetermined signal. A Viterbi decoder corrects errors during a transmissio n procedure in a blind mode. A training symbol storing block stores training symbols. An output signal of the Viterbi decoder and symbols are provided to the backward filter in accordance with a blind mode or a training mode. A Kalman gain is calculated in a Kalman gain calculating block and an error signal is calculated by comparing an equalized signal, symbols, and the outp ut signal of the Viterbi decoder with one another. A tap coefficient is updated by using the calculated error signal and the Kalman gain.

Abstract: An MPEG system for processing stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video comprises a compressor (10) for processing input stereoscopic/multiview three- dimensional video data to generate field-based elementary streams of multiple channels, and integrating the multi-channel elementary streams into a single-channel elementary stream, a packetizer (20) for receiving the sinlge-channel elementary stream from the compressor (10) per access unit and packetizing the received single-channel elementary streams into a packetized stream, and a transmitter (30) for multiplexing the packetized stream into a multipixed stream for transmitting or storing the same, wherein the multiplexed stream includes viewpoint information including the number of viewpoint that the packetized stream provides.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmitting MPEG-4 data synchronized to MPEG-2 data is disclosed. The apparatus for transmitting MPEG-4 data synchronized to MPEG-2 data includes: an object separation unit for extracting MPEG-4 object data from MP4 data, separating meta information from the object data, and generating program information and synchronization information; a conversion unit for converting the MPEG-4 object data to MPEG-4 packets of which data structure is the same as that of MPEG-2 data, based on the program information and synchronization information; and a multiplexing unit for multiplexing the MPEG-4 packets with the MPEG-2 data.
