    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce 2,6-diethylnaphthalene on an industrial scale at a low cost in high yield by using mordenite as a catalyst and carrying out trans- ethylation using ethylnaphthalene as an ethylation agent as it is. CONSTITUTION:2,6-Diethylnaphthalene is produced by the transethylation of ethylnaphthalene (preferably 1- or 2-ethylnaphthalene) (preferably in liquid phase) using mordenite as a catalyst. The amount of mordenite is 0.001-500wt.% (preferably 0.05-200wt.%) based on ethylnaphthalene and the reaction temperature is 100-450 deg.C (preferably 130-300 deg.C).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for polymer and production raw material for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals in high yield by using a specific faujasite-type zeolite as a catalyst and isomerizing a mixed dialkylnaphthalene in high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene is produced by isomerizing a dialkylnaphthalene of formula (Naph is naphthalene ring; R is methyl or ethyl; R is ethyl or isopropyl) by using a catalyst consisting of a proton-containing faujasite-type zeolite or a faujasite-type zeolite produced by substituting a part of the proton with alkali metal ion or alkaline-earth metal ion (especially preferably Y-type faujasite-type zeolite, particularly super-stable Y-type faujasite-type zeolite). The catalyst is e.g. protonic super-stable Y-type zeolite or proton- barium-type super-stable Y-type zeolite).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the color developing recording material capable of developing practicable sufficiently intense color immediately after making color developing operation and enabling readout of information through instruments using lights of all the wavelengths by incorporating a specified diamine derivative and an oxidant, and an organic acid material solid at normal temperature. CONSTITUTION:The recording material contains the oxidant, the organic acidic material solid at normal temperature, and the diamine derivative represented by formula I in which each of A and B is, independently, aryl; X is arylene, and each of R and R is, independently, H, lower alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl. It is preferred that the oxidant is a quinoid type electron receptor, thus permitting practicable sufficiently intense color to be developed and the color developing part to have strong absorption in the wide region from visible to near infra wavelengths, and therefore, readout of information to be made by instruments using all the wavelengths.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substances in high selectivity under relatively mild conditions by reacting diphenyl and/or 4-methyldiphenyl with penta-an/or hexamethylbenzene in the presence of a catalyst and carrying out transmethylation. CONSTITUTION:One mol diphenyl and/or 4-methyldiphenyl and 1.5-20mol penta- and/or hexamethylbenzene are reacted in the presence of a catalyst, such as a Lewis acid, protonic acid or solid acid, at 50-150 deg.C to carry out transmethylation and provide the subject substances. The reaction is normally carried out in a solvent, such as 1,2-dichloroethane or nitrobenzene. AlCl3 is especially preferred as the catalyst without causing corrosion in apparatus. The 4,4'-dimethyldiphenyl is useful as a raw material for producing 4,4'- diphenyldicarboxylic acid which is a raw material for polyester resins.

The catalytic compound usually has a configuration of having a great number of accumulated lamellar clay and containing ion components between the layers of the lamellar clay and tetrasilicic mica, taeniolite, montmorilonite, etc., wherein ions are exchanged with aluminum ion, gallium ion, etc., are used.
