Abstract: A multi-channel digital transceiver (400) receives uplink radio frequency signals and converts these signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. Digital signal processing, including a digital converter module (426), is employed to select digital intermediate frequency signals received at a plurality of antennas (412) and to convert these signals to baseband signals. The baseband signals are processed to recover a communication channel therefrom. Downlink baseband signals are also processed and digital signal processing within the digital converter module (426) up converts and modulates the downlink baseband signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. The digital intermediate frequency signals are converted to analog radio frequency signals, amplified and radiated from transmit antennas (420).

Abstract: A multi-channel digital transceiver (400) receives uplink radio frequency signals and converts these signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. Digital signal processing, including a digital converter module (426), is employed to select digital intermediate frequency signals received at a plurality of antennas (412) and to convert these signals to baseband signals. The baseband signals are processed to recover a communication channel therefrom. Downlink baseband signals are also processed and digital signal processing within the digital converter module (426) up converters and modulates the downlink baseband signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. The digital intermediate frequency signals are converted to analog radio frequency signals, amplified and radiated from transmit antennas (420).

Abstract: A wideband multi-channel transmitter and receiver (transceiver) for cellul ar communication systems. The transceiver includes programmable digital down converters (DDCs) and programmable digital up converters (DUCs) providing a range of decimation/interpolation ratios to accommodate multiple access, i.e . AMPS, NAMPS, USDC, PDC, for varying signal formats and bandwidths. The method of digitizing a wideband frequency signal used by DDCs and DUCs has application to digitizing any wideband signal occupying continuous or discontinuous spectrum while reducing sampling frequency and hardware requirements. The arrangement of elements in the transceiver allows channel processing functions to be performed centrally, and transceiver functions to be performed at a communication cell site. The result is a savings to the operator by way of physical space required for equipment and in more centralized operati on and maintenance activities.

Abstract: Se describe un transceptor digital de canales multiples (400) que recibe señales de radiofrecuencia de enlace ascendente y convierte éstas en señales de frecuencia intermedia digitales. El procesamiento de señal digital incluye un modulo convertidor digital (426), que se emplea para seleccionar las señales de frecuencia intermedia digital recibidas en una pluralidad de antenas (412) y para convertir estas señales en señales de banda base. Las señales de banda base se procesan para recuperar un canal de comunicacion desde la misma. Las señales de banda base de enlace descendente también se procesan y el procesamiento de señal digital dentro del modulo convertidor digital (426) convierte en forma descendente y modula las señales de banda de enlace descendente en señales de frecuencia intermedia digital. Las señales de frecuencia intermedia digital se convierte en señales de radiofrecuencia analogicas, amplificadas y radiadas desde antenas de transmision (420).
