Abstract: Disclosed is a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), comprising: receiving signaling of a configuration to establish a signaling radio bearer (SRB) with at least one of a first link to a first network entity and a second link to a second network entity; transitioning to an inactive state where context of the UE in the network is maintained at the UE and at least the first network entity; and communicating with the network using the SRB while in the inactive state. Further, disclosed is a method for wireless communications by a network entity, comprising: signaling, to a UE, a configuration to establish an SRB with a first link to the network entity and a second link to another network entity; transitioning the UE to an inactive state where context of the UE in the network is maintained at the UE and at least the first network entity; and communicating with the UE via the SRB while the UE is in the inactive state.

Abstract: Providing for select Internet Protocol traffic offload (SIPTO) in a mobile communication environment is described herein. By way of example, SIPTO traffic can be facilitated via local packet gateways (P-GWs) that provide an interface to the Internet or a like data network, in addition to a centralized gateway GPRS support node (GGSN). Eligibility for SIPTO can be on a user equipment (UE) by UE basis; for instance, relying on stored subscription or account information to determine SIPTO eligibility. In particular aspects, eligibility for SIPTO can also be based on a packet network by packet network basis, or a combination of the foregoing. This enables flexibility in determining whether SIPTO can be established for a given UE in a given location, and can be based for instance on UE capability, subscription status information, data network capability, tariff rates, and so on, as well as different legal requirements of government jurisdictions.

Abstract: Discovery and synchronization channels are discussed for user-tracking zones in a cellular network. User-tracking zones reduce the mobility tracking burden on the UE and shift the tracking responsibility to the network. This shift allows for UE and network power savings from reduced searching at the UE as well as through efficient paging area tracking and less broadcast signaling. The various aspects provide channel design for initial synchronization and discovery of the user-tracking zones. A single frequency network (SFN) synchronization channel is provided with at least a reference signal for time synchronization and payload information that may include a zone identifier (ID), formatting for a system information transmission request, and resource allocation for the request. The zone ID may be included in the payload or embedded into the reference signal. Facility is also provided for handling zone nodes of different power classes that allows for maintaining the SFN operations.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to protect a user equipment's international mobile subscriber identity by providing a privacy mobile subscriber identity instead. In an attach attempt to a serving network, the UE provides the PMSI instead of IMSI, protecting the IMSI from exposure. The PMSI is determined between a home network server and the UE so that intermediate node elements in the serving network do not have knowledge of the relationship between the PMSI and the IMSI. Upon receipt of the PMSI in the attach request, the server generates a next PMSI to be used in a subsequent attach request and sends the next PMSI to the UE for confirmation. The UE confirms the next PMSI to synchronize between the UE and server and sends an acknowledgment token to the server. The UE and the server then each update local copies of the current and next PMSI values.
