Although usually, said compd. having visible ray absorption at about 500W600nm, is colored in magenta, the color is extinguished upon irradiation with a visifle or UV ray, while it is developed again upon heating at a temp. ≥ about 60°C; the so called reverse photochromism.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal(LC) display element having many picture elements in spite of compact structure and capable of obtaining sufficiently high contrast in spite of the appearance of polarization on a substrate itself. SOLUTION: The LC display element is provided with a pair of substrates 1a, 1b forming LC orientation films and an LC layer 2 formed between both the substrates 1a, 1b. One substrate 1a out of the substrates 1a, 1b has many picture elements and the aperture parts of respective pixture elements are aligned in a fixed direction, so that the substrate 1a has polarization having an individual polarizing direction. The LC is orientated to a direction approximately parallel with or approximately vertical to the polarizing direciton of the substrate 1a.

Date Mar. 17, 1983.A photochromic photosensitive composition contains a benzothiazolinospiropyran compound represented by the general formula: wherein R1 represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R2 represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, R3 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a methoxy group or an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a methoxy group or a methylthio group, dissolved or dispersed in a bisphenol A type polyether resin for enhancing thermal stability of the compound in a colored state. Addition of a phenol to the composition serves to further enhance the heat stability. As compared with conventional photochromic compositions, this photochromic photosensitive composition is thermally extremely stable in a colored state, and the developed color image can be stored for an enough long time to be suited for long-time recording.

This org. solvent solution of the org. dye is applied to a substrate composed of polycarbonate and dried to prepare an optical data recording medium having an org. dye layer formed thereto. As a suitable embodiment of the aforementioned org. solvent, there are diacetone alcohol, 4-hydroxy-2- butanone, 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-butane or the like.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To contrive stabilization of a developed color image both thermally and to visible rays, by heat-treating a photosensitive layer comprising a specified indolinospirobenzothiopyran compound, a high molecular weight substance and a metal naphthenate as main constituent after developing a color by irradiating the layer with UV rays. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer is constituted of a photosensitive layer formed of a photosensitive composition comprising an indolinospirobenzothiopyran compound of the formula, wherein each of R1-R3 is H, a halogen, 1-5C alkoxymethyl, hydroxymethyl or alkylaminomethyl, a high molecular weight substance and a metal naphthenate as main constituents. The photosensitive layer is irradiated with UV rays to develop a color, and thereafter it is heat-treated. The high molecular weight substance may be any one which is well compatible with the compound of the formula and has an excellent film-forming capability, and may be polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, a phenolic resin, a phenoxy resin or the like, among which a chlorine- containing high molecular weight substance and a phenolic resin are particularly preferable. The amount of the metal naphthenate is preferably 10-50pts.wt. per 100pts. wt. of the high molecular weight substance, and the amount of the compound of the formula is 20-120pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the high molecular weight substance.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the amt. of the silver salt film to be used in the image forming stage by forming an image to a spiropyran photochromic film, exposing the same through a filter which shields specific transmitted light and transferring the image to the silver salt film, etc. CONSTITUTION:The spiropyran photochromic is formed by using the benzopyran spiropyran compd., etc., expressed by the formula as a recording material. In the formula, R1 denotes an alkyl group of 1-20C, R2-R5 denote H, alkoxy group of 1-5C, halogen, etc., R6-R8 denote an alkoxy group of 1-5C, halogen atom. The image is formed by radiating light to the spiropyran photochromic film. The spiropyran compd. sensitizes the silver salt film by allowing the transmission of visible light at about 400-500nm in the color forming state. The image formed on the photochromic film is exposed through the yellow filter for shielding the light of the above-mentioned wavelength range and is transferred to the silver salt film. Since the image is transferred by using the filter, the sharp image having no fogging is formed.

The comonomer unit is contained in the compd. in an amt. of 3- 50mol%. When the amt. is less than 3mol%, sufficient color development is unobtainable while when it exceeds 50mol%, the macromolecular compd. is difficult to obtain.
