    Abstract: A method of filtering and an image filter (10) is disclosed. The filter is provided for a digital camera including image sensors sensitive to light, a color filter placed over sensitive elements of the sensors and patterned according to a Bayer mosaic pattern layout and an interpolation algorithm joining together the digital information provided by differently colored adjacent pixels in said Bayer pattern. The filter (10) is adaptive and includes a noise level computation block (26) for operating directly on a said Bayer pattern data set of for each color channel thus removing noise while simultaneously preserving picture detail.

    Abstract: Filter achieving noise reduction and digital signal image edge exaltation comprising first and second noise reduction circuit means 2 and 3 designed to elect an image edge. Said first and second noise reduction circuit means 2 and 3 comprise each a first and second comparison element (S1,S2,S3,S4) whose input terminals are designed to receive separate digital signals of an image and an inferential circuit (C1,C2) connected to said comparison elements. Each inferential circuit (C1,C2) comprises a fuzzy logic unit designed to define activation levels (Vi) dependent upon signals generated by the comparison elements. The filter (1) comprises also a noise detection circuit (4) and an image edge detection circuit (6) both connected to the noise reduction circuit means (2,3) and designed to perform operations in accordance with fuzzy logic rules on the basis of activation levels (Vi) defined in the inferential circuits (C1,C2). The filter 1 also includes a noise reduction circuit (5) connected to the noise detection circuit (6) and designed to filter the digital image signals on the basis of the operations performed by the circuit (4). In the filter (1) is also included an image edge exalting circuit (7) connected to the noise reduction circuit (5) and to the image edge detection circuit (4) designed to perform on filtered digital image signals an image edge exaltation on the basis of the operations performed by the image edge detection circuit (6).

    Abstract: A method (400) of compressing a digital image including a matrix of elements each one consisting of a plurality of digital components of different type representing a pixel, the method comprising the steps of providing (410-430) an incomplete digital image wherein at least one component is missing in each element, obtaining (433-435) the digital image from the incomplete digital image, splitting (455) the digital image into blocks and calculating, for each block, a group of DCT coefficients for the components of each type, and quantizing (460-465) the DCT coefficients of each group using a corresponding quantization table scaled by a gain factor; the method further comprises the steps of determining (440) at least one energy measure of the incomplete digital image and estimating (445-450) the gain factor as a function of the at least one energy measure, the function being determined experimentally according to a target compression factor.
