    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve dimensional stability, particularly, heat-contraction characteristics, by subjecting poly-p-phenylene sulfide two-axis-extended film to stretch heat treatment and thereby thermosetting it, and further by heat treating it under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:Two-axis-extended film substantially made of poly-p-phenylene sulfide is heat treated under stretching, at 150-280 deg.C, preferably, at 250-280 deg.C, for 1-120 seconds, and thereby it is sufficiently thermoset. Next, the resultant substance is heat treated under the restriction for contraction or expansion within 20% in both lengthwise and crosswise directions, preferably within 10%, or at a fixed length, at a temperature below the preceding heat treatment temperature but above 50 deg.C, preferably, above 80 deg.C, for 1-10 seconds, and thereby the desired film is obtained. USE:Suitable for use for magnetic tape, optical image recording base, print circuit base, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a biaxially oriented poly-p-phenylene sulfide film, which is thermally stable in dimensional change, mechanical characteristics, transparency and the like, by a method wherein poly-p-phenylene sulfide, which contains the required quantity or more of the specified repeating unit and has the specified melt viscosity, is molded into a sheet form and quenched and, after that, simultaneously biaxially oriented in the limited temperature range and finally thermoset at the specified temperature so as to set its density to the required value. CONSTITUTION:Poluy-p-phenylene sulfide, which contains 90% by mole or more of the repeating unit represented by the general formula and the melt viscosity of which at 300 deg.C and shearing speed of 200s is 100-600,000 poise, is melt-formed into a sheet form and quenched at a cooling speed of 5 deg.C/s or higher in order to obtain an amorphous film. In succession, the amorphous film is simultaneously biaxially oriented at 80-120 deg.C by the areal draw ratio of 400% or more. Further, the oriented film is thermoset at a temperature ranging from 180 deg.C to the melting point of the polymer in order to set the density of the film within the range of 1.330-1.400. The adopted thermosetting time varies from the unit of second to the unit of minute such as from about 1sec to the order of 10min.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled polymer having excellent stability to oxidation, ultraviolet rays and melting and an excellent effect of preventing formation of corrosive gases, having electron-attracting groups and further containing aromatic residues chemically bonded to the phenylene sulfide chain. CONSTITUTION:A stabilized polyphenylene sulfide having, in the main chain, chain segments of the formula, wherein n is an integer >=20, and electron-attracting groups selected from the group consisting of -SO2-, -CO-, -NO2, -SO3R and -COOR, in which R is H, a lower hydrocarbon group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or an alkali metal and further containing 0.05-10mol% (per phenyl sulfide unit) aromatic residues chemically bonded to the phenylene sulfide chain of the above-described formula. This polymer has an improved resistance to ultraviolet rays and a prolonged outdoor service life when molded. It is possible to carry out viscosity reduction in the molten state, to reduce formation of volatile low- MW matter including sulfur-containing inorganic gases and to reduce the gel fraction of a molding.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain mechanical performance even under a high temperature by reducing variation in size due to an change in envirotment such as a temperature and humidity, by using a specific poly-P-phenylene-sulfide film as a base film. CONSTITUTION:As a base film, a biaxial-orientation poly-P-phenylene-sulfide film is used which contains more than 90mol% of the repetitive unit of a formula, is more than 250Kg/mm in modulus of more than unidirectional elasticity at 20 deg.C, and is between -2X10 and 2X10 mm/(mm.C) in thermal expansivity in a range from 20 to 150 deg.C. On this film, a magnetic layer is formed by coating, plating, or the like. Here, productivity improves because the magnetic layer can be formed under a higher temperature than before. Further, the formation of the magnetic layer can be performed in an thermally-severe atmosphere of vapor-deposition, sputtering, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An optically isotropic aromatic polyamide dope prepared by dissolving a specific para-oriented aromatic polyamide in a N-substituted amide solvent incorporated with lithium bromide and/or calcium bromide. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic polyamide having repeating units, preferably of formula II, expressed by formula I: (X and Y are 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy, nitro, cyano groups, or halogens; n and m are integers 0-4, however, are not 0 at the same time) as main structural units is dissolved in (B) a N-substituted amide solvent, e.g. N,N-dimethylacetamide or N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, having a boiling point of about 250 deg.C or below incorporated with (C) lithium bromide and/ or calcium bromide. Preferably, the polymer (A) has an intrinsic viscosty of about 0.3-11 (measured by using a 0.5 g/100 ml solution in cone. sulfuric acid at 30 deg.), and its concentration is about 1-70 wt.% based on the total dope. The amount of components (C) is preferably about 10-200 wt.% based on the polymer weight.
