Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin film capable of being used as a liquid crystal display element substrate having excellent optical characteristics, electric characteristics and thermal dimensional stability. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin film comprises a thermoplastic resin A and is characterized in that the glass transition point of the film is not less than 150 deg.C, the thickness thereof is not less than 30 μm, the retardation thereof is not more than 20 nm, the surface roughness thereof is not more than 10 nm and the number of streaks with a height of 0.2 μm or more continued in the longitudinal direction on the surface of the film is not more than 2/1 cm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a gas barrier film having high gas barrier property even under high humidity and excellent in coating film adhesiveness, by specifying the atom number ratio N/C on the coating film layer side of a substrate film and by forming a coating film composed of specific components on the substrate. SOLUTION: This gas barrier film is obtained by providing a thermoplastic resin substrate film with a coating film consisting mainly of (A) a water-soluble polymer (pref. polyvinyl alcohol) and (B) an inorganic lamellar compound (e.g. kaolinite) and specifying the atom number ratio N/C on the surface of the coating film layer side at 0.001-0.1. The substrate film is pref. a polypropylene composite film prepared by laminating a base layer consisting mainly of a polypropylene polymer with a resin layer consisting of a blend of a polypropylene copolymer and an ethylene copolymer at the weight ratio of (95:5) to (75:25). In this case, it is recommended to provide the surface of the resin layer with a coating film layer. To set the N/C ratio within the above range, it is recommended that, prior to coating film formation on the surface of the coating film layer side of the substrate film, a corona discharge treatment, etc., be performed on the surface.
