Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a polyamide hollow yarn membrane with the internal structure exhibiting excellent elastic recovery and micropore forming property by wet-heat-treating a polyamide hollow yarn having 15X10 to 35X10 birefringence and with both ends opened while keeping the yarn tensionless. CONSTITUTION:A polyamide hollow yarn having 15X10 to 35X10 birefringence and with one or both ends opened is wet-heat-treated with pressurized steam or pressurized hot water while keeping it tensionless to produce a polyamide hollow yarn membrane. The obtained membrane gas 25X10 to 40X10 birefringence in its orientation direction, >=1.150g.cm density, >=70% elastic recovery rate at 50% elongation and >=1.0X10 cm .cm .sec .cmHg nitrogen diffusibility at 50% elongation. The membrane is drawn and heat-treated, as required, to fix its internal structure and to further orient the crystal lamella. The ordinary crystalline polyamide such as nylon 6, nylon 66, nylon 12, nylon 610 and nylon 46 is exemplified as the polyamide.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a hollow yarn module generating a very small amt. of leached matter and having superior chemical and heat resistances by fixing the end of a bundle of hollow yarn with a resin having a lower m.p. than the transition point of the hollow yarn. CONSTITUTION:Pieces of hollow yarn made of a resin such as a tetrafluoroethylene polymer are bundled. The tip of the bundle is dipped in an aq. dispersion of a resin having a lower m.p. than the transition point, e.g., the m.p. of the hollow yarn, e.g., a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer and the dipped tip is dried. By repeating the dipping and drying, a resin coat is formed on the surface of the hollow yarn. The coat part of the bundle is clamped with a film of said tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer and the resin is melted by heating to adhere the hollow yarn. A sealing member of housing made of said tetrafluoroethylene polymer is inserted into the adhered part of the hollow yarn and pellets of said tetrafluoroethylene- hexafluoropropylene copolymer are filled and heated to fix the sealing member in the bundle.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a hollow yarn module generating a very small amt. of leached matter and having superior chemical and heat resistances by forming all the constituent members of the module with a tetrafluoroethylene polymer. CONSTITUTION:Liq. stock prepd. by uniformly mixing an aq. dispersion of a tetrafluoroethylene polymer with a fiber forming polymer such as sodium alginate is spun from a spinneret together with a core liq. and solidified in a solidifying liq. The resulting hollow yarn is heat treated, immersed in a sulfuric acid-nitric acid mixed soln. and allowed to stand to remove the fiber forming polymer from the hollow yarn and to make the yarn porous. Pieces of such porous hollow yarn are bundled and the tip of the bundle is dipped in an aq. dispersion of said tetrafluoroethylene polymer and dried. By repeating the dipping and drying, a resin coat is formed on the surface of the hollow yarn. The coat part of the bundle is then clamped with a tetrafluoroethylene polymer film and only the end is heated to melt the polymer and to fix the hollow yarn. The bundle is incorporated into housing made of said tetrafluoroethylene polymer and the housing is heated to fix the bundle by melting.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a separation membrane wherein control of a pore diameter is made easy and membrane thickness can be made thin by constituting the membrane of both a permeable layer having many fine pores of specified average pore diameter and a supporting layer having many pores wherein the average pore diameter in the face parallel to the surface of the membrane is specified. CONSTITUTION:A uniform raw liquid is obtained by adding an aq. soln. dissolved with both a fiber formable polymer such as sodium alginate and an additive such as calcium carbonate to an aqueous dispersion in which polytetrafluoroethylene is dispersed in an aqueous medium contg. a surfactant. This raw liquid is extruded through a mouthpiece for hollow yarn together with core liquid consisting of a coagulating liquid such as a calcium chloride aq. soln. and coagulated in the coagulating liquid and washed with water and thereafter heat-treated at the temp. not lower than m.p. of the resin. This molded form is immersed into the mixed liquid of sulfuric acid and nitric acid to remove the fiber formable polymer and the additive and a porous hollow yarn membrane is obtained. Whereby the separation membrane consisting of both a permeable layer having fine many pores of 0.01-2mu average pore diameter and a supporting layer having many pores wherein the average pore diameter in the face parallel to the surface of the membrane is regulated to 2-20mu is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a miniaturized, lightweight straw type water purifier suitable for a portable purifier capable of supplying safe and comfortable water to drink by intermediating hollow thread films in a liquid passage in a straw and filtrating bacteria and fine grains. CONSTITUTION:After large foreign matters (e.g. rusted metal pieces, sand, etc.) are removed out of raw water, it is introduced into a module case 2 composed of hollow thread films. Liquid is passed from the outside of the hollow thread films 1 of organic matters such as cellulose, polyacrylonitrile, polymethylmethacrylate, etc., and inorganic matters into the hollow internal part to filtrate bacteria and fine grains and obtain pure water. This pure water is supplied from within the hollow thread films 1 through a mouthpiece 6. Therefore, it is possible to miniaturize and to make the water purifier lightweight and protect bacteria from penetrating by using hollow thread films in the water purifier. Moreover, it is possible to remove turbidity, uncomfortable smell, uncomfortable taste out of the raw water by combining adsorbent such as activated carbon etc.
