    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve surface hardness and heat resistance by using a monomer compsn. which can form a network polymer and a polymer having the refractive index different from the refractive index of this monomer compsn. CONSTITUTION:The monomer compsn. which can form the network polymer is partly polymerized and is molded to the fiber shape. Another monomer compsn. which can form the polymer having the refractive index different from the refractive index of the monomer compsn. or a mixture compose of >= 2 kinds of the monomers including this monomer is impregnated into the molding and the monomers are volatilized from the surface thereof or while the monomers are volatilized from the surface thereof or while the monomers are volatilized, the polymn. of the monomers is completed. The monomer compsn. prepd. by mixing the monomer compsn. which can form the network polymer, i.e. the monomer mixture contg. the monomer which can form the network polymer as well as a polymn. initiator and various polymn. compds. is first polymerized. The ratio of the monomer which forms the network polymer with respect to the entire part of the monomer mixture is preferably >= 2wt.% in this case. The plastic optical transmission body having the excellent heat resistance and surface hardness is obtd. in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the optical transmission body which substantially prevents the phase sepn. of a polymer and has excellent transparency by using a mixture composed of the specific polymer and a monomer having the refractive index different from the refractive index of this polymer. CONSTITUTION:The polymer to be used is so formed that the polymer has radical polymerizable functional groups in its side chains and that these groups exist in the quantity of >= 0.2 mol% per repeating unit of the polymer. The polymer having at least one kind of the radical polymerizable functional groups in the side chains and the monomer having the refractive index different from the refractive index of the polymer when polymerized or a monomer mixture composed of >= 2 kinds of the monomers including this monomer are mixed and after the mixture is molded to a fiber shape, the monomers are volatilized from the molding surface or the monomers are polymerized while volatilized. The distributed index type optical transmission body having the excellent transparency and the excellent surface hardness and heat resistance is obtd. in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase intrinsic viscosity, decrease reaction time, and improve mechanical strengths by conducting the polycondensation of an alkali metal sulfide with a dihalide compd. in the presence of a specific quaternary ammonium salt.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the plastic spectacle frame having sufficient rigidity, flexural property, heat resistance and transparency while the frame is slim by essentially consisting of the frame of polyphenylene sulfide sulfone. CONSTITUTION:This spectacle frame is essentially composed of the polyphenylene sulfide sulfone. Any polyphenylene sulfide sulfones are usable without particular limitation, insoar as they are the polymers having the unit expressed by formula I. Such polyphenylene sulfide sulfones are theremoplastic noncrystalaline resins and high dimensional stability as these resins are lower in molding shrinkage than crystalline resins and have low water absorptivity.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To adsorb and separate especially the 3,5-isomer, by treating a dichlorocumene isomer mixture with an adsorbent consisting of zeolite, such as faujasite, L or beta type, having a specific silica/alumina molar ratio and pore diameter. CONSTITUTION:The 3,5-isomer is separated from a dichlorocumene isomer mixture. In the process, zeolite (e.g., faujasite, L or beta type) having >=2 molar ratio of silica/alumina and 0.6-1.0nm pore diameter is used as an adsorbent to carry out adsorption at 50-250 deg.C under atmospheric pressure -40kg/cm G. Thereby, the aimed substance is efficiently obtained in high purity. The method for adsorption and separation may be carried out by either of methods for chromatographic separation and collection and using continuous a pseudo-moving bed. The present substance is useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, dyes, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyphenylene sulfide resin composition having improved mechanical properties such as impact characteristics without deteriorating the excellent characteristics of the base resin, by adding a polyamide resin to a deionized polyphenylene sulfide resin. CONSTITUTION:A polyphenylene sulfide resin containing >=70mol.%, preferably >=90mol.% of the recurring unit of formula is subjected to acid treatment (e.g., immersing the resin in an aqueous solution of acetic acid at pH4 and 80-90 deg.C and stirring for 30min), hot-water treatment (stirring the resin in hot water of >=100 deg.C in an autoclave in inert atmosphere) or washing with an organic solvent (preferably N-methylpyrrolidone, acetone, etc.) and the treated resin is washed with water (preferably distilled water or deionized water). (A) 1-99wt.% of the deionized polyphenylene sulfide resin produced by the above process is compounded with (B) 99-1wt.% of a polyamide having a relative viscosity of 2-5 to obtain the objective polyphenylene sulfide resin composition.
