    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the relative position accuracy between a mouthpiece and a member to be coated and to greatly improve the coating accuracy on the member to be coated by disposing a positioning means for positioning the member to be coated before bringing a coating liquid discharger and the member to be coated in proximity to each other. SOLUTION: A die coater 1 which is the coating applicator used for production of color filters for color liquid crystal displays is provided with a pair of guide groove rails 4 on a base plate 2. A table 6 which is a transporting body for a glass substrate A which is the member to be coated is arranged on these rails 4. A die strut 24 having an inverted L shape is erected atop the base plate 2 so as to exist at approximately the center thereof and a lifting mechanism 26 of the mouthpiece 40 which is a coating liquid discharger is mounted at the front end of this die strut 24. The table 6 is provided with edging devices 200 for positioning the glass substrate a in the transverse direction thereof. The units of the positioning devices for the moving direction and the edging devices 200 are mounted at the table 6 in such a manner that the glass substrate A may be held from the moving direction.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to maintain the uniform thickness of a formed coating film by placing a member to be coated on a stage surface and sucking the peripheral parts of this member to be coated by suction holes included in the suction hole arrays corresponding thereto. SOLUTION: A glass substrate A on the stage 6 is sucked by the suction holes 74 of the suction hole arrays R up to its outer periphery edges in the formation of the coating film on the glass substrate A and, therefore, the floating of the outer periphery parts of the glass substrate A from the top of the stage does not arise. Since the suction surface 76 of the stage 6 is smooth, the glass substrate A is sucked and held in the stage that the entire surface of its rear surface is held in well tight contact with the suction surface 76 of the stage 6. Then, the clearance between the discharge port of a slit die and the glass substrate A is made uniform in forming the coating film on the glass substrate A. Consequently, the film thickness of the coating film is made uniform.

CONSTITUTION:When endless chain link devices 12a, 12b enter the flexible guide rails 17, 18 of a bending section E, the rail interval adjusting devices (cams) 24 provided in the guide rails 17, 18 support the bending of the guide rails 17, 18 by the grasping forces of chain link units from the inside to prevent the deformation thereof. Therefore, the endless chain link units can run smoothly while keep the grasping pitch and radius of curvature of a prescribed sheet like article even in the bending section E.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate reduction of a temple pitch and to make possible high speed drive by setting a sprocket with every second tooth of which the short link connecting member of a pantograph link is engaged at the pitch reduction interval following the longest temple pitch interval. CONSTITUTION:A sprocket 7 is set at the starting point of reduced pitch from the longest temple pitch and members 16a, 16b connecting with short links are engaged with every second tooth of the sprocket. One set of short links 19a, 19b is lined up on both sides of the unengaged pin 16b that is located in the center. Guide rails 4-6 are provided so that the link device does not separate by centrifugal force from the teeth of the sprocket in time of high speed rotation. The intersecting angle between the short links is determined by phi=2Xcos (l/R) and a sprokcet having a radius two times as large as the conventional radius can be used to obtain the same intersecting angle.

After that, a suction valve 243 is closed, a discharge valve 244 is opened, and a coating liquid is supplied from a quantitative pump 242 to the die 40 to apply the liquid on a substrate on the suction face. In this process, a coating liquid supply unit 240 is moved simultaneously with the die 40 so that the frame 202 can move without being hindered by each piping 248, 249.

SOLUTION: In an applicator, a discharge opening for discharging a coating solution is constituted by inserting a shim 102 of a prescribed thickness into the inside, and the shim 102 has a shape which changes the shape of a coating solution passage over the longitudinal direction of the discharge opening and/or the discharge direction of the coating solution so that the distribution of the discharged coating solution changes over the longitudinal direction of the discharge opening.
