Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for processing the end surface of the plastic optical fiber which can eliminate trouble caused when a peeling film is left not renewed forgetfully. CONSTITUTION: When a heating body elevation lever 10 is lifted, a rotary plate 21 coupled with the heating body elevation lever 10 through a connecting link 11 rotates by a certain quantity and then the peeling film 3 which is already used is taken up by a film take-up part 6', so that the peeling film 3 is renewed. When the heating body elevation lever 10 is further drawn up, the mirror surface 4 of a heating block 16 comes into contact with the end surface of the optical fiber 1 across the peeling film 3 and the end surface is heated and deformed to become smooth. When the heating body elevation lever 10 is lifted, the heating block 16 leaves the end surface of the optical fiber 1 and the end surface part is cooled.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable quick heating and cooling of a yarn by transporting a yarn in non-contacting state through a slit formed by oppositely placing a pair of heating plates expanding from the starting point and the end point of the effective treating zone outward. CONSTITUTION:A pair of heating plates 4 are oppositely placed above and below and a slit 13 is formed between the plates. The gap of the slit is made to be adjustable within the range of 0.5-7mm according to the number of yarns and the plates 4 are gradually expanded from the starting point and the end point of the effective treating zone toward the inlet and outlet directions of the yarn 15 at an expansion angle of alpha. The channel is provided with a shutter 7 to close the part other than the inlet and outlet of the yarn 15 and having a vertically adjustable opening. The spontaneous convection flow 14 caused by the ascending flow near the inlet and outlet part of the treating chamber 12 is generated in a convection flow channel formed by the shutter close to the inlet and outlet faces while introducing outer air to keep the surface temperature of the yarn 15 to a low level immediately before and after the heat treatment.

CONSTITUTION:An apparatus having a lid 17 and an auxiliary lid 19 openably and closeably provided at each of the upper and lower openings 2 of a heat treating cylinder 1 with pivot shafts 21 and 23. In threading, all the openings 2 of the het treating cylinder 1 are used to introduce a yarn. After the treading, the yarn is passed through a yarn inlet hole 31, led to a yarn passage port 32, and passed and run therethrough. The inflow of an accompanying air stream and outflow of a heating fluid can be prevented to improve the thermal efficiency.
