Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method expanding a porti on of a tubular. The expansion apparatus is run into a wellbore on a working string. The expansion apparatus first comprises a rotary expander for expanding an expandable tubular. The expansion apparatus further comprises a spline assembly for coupling the rotary expander to a motor disposed on the work string. The rotary expander and spline assembly have hollow bodies that allow them to encircle the work stri ng and rotate relative thereto. The spline assembly comprises an inner sleeve and outer sleeve. The inner sleeve is attached to the motor and the outer sleeve is attached to the rotary expander. The inner and outer sleeves are coupled to each other using a spline and groove connection. The connection allows the rotary expander to b e rotated by the motor, while at the same time, allow the rotary expander to move axially relative to the motor. The rotary expander comprises two rows of rollers for expansion against the tubular. The position of the rollers on the first row is skewed in one direction relative to the longitudinal axis. The rollers on the second row a re skewed in an opposite direction. When actuated, the skew angle of the rollers will cau se the expander tool to move axially. Because the rollers of the tworows are placed at opposing skew angles, alternating actuation between the two rows of rollers causes the expander to move in opposite axial directions during expansion. 24

Abstract: The present invention provides a liner hanger and a method of hanging a liner in a wellborn. In one aspect, a process for setting a liner in a wellbore is provided in which a tubular (300) having a slip (340) formed on an outer diameter of the tubular at a first location (335) and a preformed bypass (330) for circulating a fluid disposed at a second location is set and expanded into substantial contact with an inner diameter of the wellbore, a casing, or another liner. In another aspect, a process for setting, a liner in a wellbore is provided in which a tubular having a slip formed on an outer diameter of the tubular at a first location is placed in the weilbore, a bypass for circulating a fluid is formed downhole, the liner is set and expanded into substantial contact with an inner diameter of the wellbore, a casing, or another liner. In yet another aspect, a process for creating, a liner top seal is provided in which the liner is set by expanding a protrusion in an upper end of a tubular into substantial contact with an inner diameter of the wellbore, and the upper end of the tubular is then reformed and expanded into substantial contact with the inner diameter of the wellbore.

Abstract: The present invention provides apparatus and methods for completing a wellbore using expandable tubulars. In one aspect, the invention includes a tubular member with an expandable portion at a lower end constructed and arranged to be expanded into contact with a previously expanded liner. At an upper end of the tubular is a polish bore receptacle permitting the tubular to be tied back to the surface of the well with production tubing. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of completing a well comprising expanding a liner top into a cased wellbore to hang the liner and, thereafter running a tubular member into the wellbore.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for expanding a first tubular against a second tubular. In one aspect, an expander tool includes a mandrel coupled to a spline assembly such that an annular space is formed between the same. Seals are placed between the mandrel and the spline assembly to retain a fluid in the annular space. The fluid may be used to actuate one or more expander members disposed on the spline assembly. The spline assembly is movably connected to a housing, which is coupled to a torque anchor. In operation, the mandrel is rotated, which, in turn, rotates the expander members. Rotation of the mandrel also causes the spline assembly to extend axially, thereby pulling a first seal closer to a second seal. As a result, the pressure in the annular space rises due to the compression of the fluid in the annular space. The rise in pressure extends the expander members into contact with the first tubular and expands the first tubular against the second tubular.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in a wellbore, the apparatus comprises a top body, a bottom body, and a sleeve mechanically connected to the top and bottom bodies. The sleeve movable between a first position to a second position, whereby in the first position, the top and bottom bodies rotate as one unit and in the second position, the top body rotates independent of the bottom body in a first direction and with the bottom body in a second direction. A method for completing a wellbore, wherein the method comprises running an assembly and a liner disposed on a drill string into the wellbore. The assembly includes an expander tool, a hydraulically actuated swivel, and a running tool mechanically connected to the liner. The method includes rotating the assembly and the liner as one rotationally locked unit. The method further includes activating the expander tool, expanding the liner into the existing casing, deactivating the expander, and then removing the drill string and running assembly from the wellbore.

Abstract: The present invention provides an expandable tubular having improved polishe d bore receptacle protection. The present invention further provides methods f or completing a wellbore through the use of an expandable string of casing havi ng improved polished bore receptacle protection. In one aspect, the invention includes a liner member (200) having an expandable section (225), and a polished bore receptacle (25) positioned below the expandable section. The expandable section is run into a wellbore (205), and is positioned to overla p with the bottom portion of a string of casing (210) already set within the wellbore. The expandable section is then expanded into frictional engagement with the surrounding casing. The expandable section optionally includes at least one sealing member (260) and at least one slip member (270) on the out er surface. In one aspect, a transition section (275) is provided between the expandable section and the polished bore receptacle. The transition section defines a sloped inner diameter which provides further protection for the sealing surfaces of the polished bore receptacle as tools, fluid, and tubula rs are transited downhole through the polished bore receptacle.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relates to hydraulically actuated tools, which may be used to actuate a liner hanger assembly. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a hydraulic setting tool for use in wellbore operations. The setting tool includes a first tubular member and a second tubular member disposed around the outer diameter of the first tubular member. A piston is mechanically attached to an upper portion of the second tubular member and adapted to move axially in relation to the first tubular member. The piston acts to transmit a force to the second tubular member. A slip assembly is operatively connected to the second tubular member and the second tubular member transmits the force to the slip assembly thereby actuating the slip assembly.
