Abstract: A coated article having recyclability properties including a combination of: (a) at least one polyolefin polymer article; and (b) a coating layer of a waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition having a recyclability property, wherein the recyclability property of the waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition is such that when the article with the waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition is reprocessed, the article with the waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition exhibits at least less than a 30% decreased change in performance compared to a control article without the waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition; wherein both the control article and the article with the waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition are both reprocessed the same way; a recyclable coated film structure including at least: (a) at least one first polymer film layer; and (b) at least one coating layer of the above recyclable waterborne acrylic-based matte coating composition; and a process for manufacturing the above recyclable coated film structure.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a polymer film includes a base composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) and a surface composition comprising hydroxy groups. In some embodiments, a polymer film includes a base layer of a first composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate), a surface layer at a surface of the base layer, and a coating layer of a second composition of a copolymer of glycerol and sebacic acid. The surface layer includes surface hydroxy groups converted from acetate groups of the poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate). The second composition is attached to the surface layer by ester bonds between carboxyl groups of the copolymer and the hydroxy groups. A single-use bioreactor bag includes a polymer film including a base composition of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) and a surface composition comprising hydroxy groups. A method of modifying a poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) film includes converting acetate groups at a first surface of the poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) film to hydroxy groups.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to multi-layered elastomer-based liners. In at least one embodiment, a coated substrate includes a substrate and a first elastomer coating disposed on the substrate. The first elastomer coating is substantially free of sulfur and includes a first elastomer selected from the group consisting of a polyurea, a polyurethane, a polyurea-polyurethane copolymer, and combinations thereof. The coated substrate includes a second elastomer coating disposed on the first coating. The second elastomer coating includes a second elastomer selected from the group consisting of a polyurea, a polyurethane, a polyurea-polyurethane copolymer, and combinations thereof. The first elastomer is the same as or different than the second elastomer and at least one of the first elastomer or the second elastomer is a polyurea-polyurethane copolymer.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a method for treating a surface of a carbon fiber composite material, comprising the steps of: (1) pretreating a carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite material; (2) spraying transparent powder to the surface of the carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite material and curing it; (3) polishing the surface of the carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite material after the transparent powder is cured; (4) spraying transparent powder to the surface of the carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite material after the transparent powder thereon is cured and curing it; (5) polishing, cleaning and baking; and (6) spraying a clear lacquer to the surface of the carbon fiber reinforced resin-based composite material after the transparent powder is cured and curing it.

Abstract: One variation of a method for directly casting a thin layer onto a substrate includes: combining a prepolymer, a solvent, and a curing agent to define a viscous material; advancing a substrate from a roll across a surface continuously at a first speed; depositing the viscous material at a viscosity through a deposition head onto the substrate, the viscous material flowing laterally across the substrate to form a thin layer of substantially uniform thickness over the substrate over a period of time while the substrate advances along the surface; and, at a distance from the deposition head depositing the viscous material onto the substrate corresponding to a duration of time for the viscous material to flow laterally across the substrate, heating the viscous material to evaporate solvent and to induce reaction between the curing agent and the prepolymer to cure the viscous material to form a layer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a multicoat coating (M) on a substrate (S) that comprises the following steps: (I) producing a basecoat (B) on the substrate by applying an aqueous basecoat material (b) to the substrate (S), the basecoat material being a two-component coating composition, and (II) producing a clearcoat (K) directly on the basecoat (B) by applying an aqueous clearcoat material (k) directly to the basecoat (B), the clearcoat material being a two-component coating composition. The present invention also relates to the multicoat coatings produced accordingly and also to their use.

Abstract: A process of providing an antibacterial coating to the surface of an article including the steps of applying a layer of an antibacterial precursor layer to the surface of an article to which an antibacterial coating is to be applied, wherein said antibacterial precursor layer is a precursor from which the coating is to be formed; and directing a neutral molecular hydrogen flux from a neutral molecular hydrogen flux emission source towards the surface of the article. Upon impact of neutral hydrogen molecules on molecules at or on the surface of an article, the bonds of the antibacterial precursor layer are selectively ruptured, and wherein the selectively ruptured bonds cross-link with themselves or with other chemical moieties at said surface or a combination thereof, resulting an antibacterial coating being formed on the surface of the article.
