    Abstract: Process for preparing a broad molecular weight polyethylene by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a polymerization catalyst, the process comprisin g the following steps, in any mutual order: a) polymerizing ethylene, optional ly together with one or more a-olefinic comono~mers having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, in a gas-phase reactor in the presence of hydrogen, b) copolymerizing ethylene with one or more a-olefinic comonomers having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms in another gas-phase reactor in the presence of an amount of hydrogen less than step a), where in at least one of said gas-phase reactors the growing polymer particles flow upward through a first polymerization zone under fast fluidization or transport conditions, leave said first polymerization zone and enter a second polymerization zone through which the y flow downward under the action of gravity.

    Abstract: Mixtures of C2-C10 olefin polymers functionalized with carboxylic acids which are neutralized from 1 to 100% with metallic ions The mixtures comprise (by weight): (1) 100 parts of a heterophasic polyolefin composition comprising crystalline polypropylene and an elastomeric fraction of an ethylene/propylene or superior ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer where the ethylene content is less than 40%; and (II) 0-250 parts of an elastomeric polymer selected from: a) ethylene/C3-C10 alpha-olefin copolymers containing at least 20% of a C3-C10 alpha-olefin; b) ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymers containing from 15 to 30% of recurrent units of methyl acrylate, and having a MFR ranging from 1 to 10 g/10 min; and c) polyisobutylenes; d) atactic propylene homopolymers and amorphous ethylene/C3-C10 alpha-olefins copolymers produced with metallocenic catalysts; and e) styrene block copolymers containing butadiene and isoprene as comonomer.

    Abstract: The invention relates to highly flowable propylene block copolymers that comprise 50 to 80 wt.-% of a propylene homopolymer and 10 to 70 wt.-% of a propylene copolymer having 5 to 50 wt.-% of a C 2 -C 8 alk-1-ene polymerized into it that is different from propylene, and that are obtainable from the gaseous phase by a two-step polymerization by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system. In a first polymerization step, the propylene is polymerized at a pressure of 10 to 50 bar, a temperature of 50 to 100° C. and an average dwelling time of the reaction mixture of 0.3 to 5 hours in the presence of at least 2.0% by volume, based on the total volume, of hydrogen. The propylene homopolymer obtained in said first polymerization step is transferred together with the Ziegler-Natta catalyst system into an intermediate container, expanded for 0.01 to 5 minutes to less than 5 bar and maintained at a temperature of 10 to 80° C. The pressure in the intermediate container is then increased by 5 to 60 bar by introducing under pressure a gaseous mixture, and the propylene homopolymer is then transferred to a second polymerization step together with the Ziegler-Natta catalyst system. In said second polymerization step, a mixture from propylene and a C 2 -C 8 alk-1-ene is polymerized into the propylene homopolymer at a pressure of 10 to 50 bar, a temperature of 50 to 100° C. and an average dwelling time of 0.5 to 5 hours. The weight ratio between the monomers reacted in the first and those reacted in the second polymerization step are adjusted to be in the range of from 4:1 to 1:1.

    Abstract: The invention provides new prepolymerized catalyst components for the (co)polymerization of olefins CH 2 =CHR, wherein R is hydrogen or a C1-C12 alkyl group, characterized by comprising a solid catalyst component, comprising Mg, Ti, halogen and an electron donor compound chosen among alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl esters of polycarboxylic acids obtained by reacting, in the presence of said electron donor compound a titanium compound of formula Ti(OR)n-yXy, where n is the valence of titanium and y is a number between 1 and n, and R has the meaning given above, with an adduct of formula MgCl 2 €¢pROH, where p is a number between 0,1 and 6 and R is a hydrocarbon radical having 1-18 carbon atoms, said catalyst component being capable of yielding under standard propylene polymerization conditions a propylene homopolymer having an insolubility in xylene at 25°C higher than 90%, and being prepolymerized with ethylene to such an extent that the amount of the ethylene prepolymer is up to 100g per g of said solid catalyst component. These such catalyst components allow to obtain a high catalyst activity, a high isotactic index and are not affected by aging.

    Abstract: A nanocomposite material comprises a smectite clay having exhangeable cations that has been treated with at least one organic swelling agent, uniformly dispersed in a graft copolymer having a backbone of a porous propylene polymer material, to which is graft polymerized at least one grafting monomer capable of being polymerized by free radicals, wherein the total inorganic content of the composite material is about 0.5% to about 10%, based on the total weight of the composite. The nanocomposite material is made by graft polymerizing at least one liquid monomer capable of being polymerized by free radicals onto a porous propylene polymer material in a non-oxidizing environment in the presence of a smectite clay and an organic free radical polymerization initiator, whereby the chains of polymerized monomer that are formed intercalate the clay and produce a uniform dispersion of clay particles within the particulate propylene polymer material.
