Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reading the three-dimensional shape of a profile such as the bezel of a spectacle frame rim. SOLUTION: The optical non-contact method for reading the three-dimensional shape of a profile in accordance with the luminous suction principle includes scanning the profile with a plane light beam intersecting the profile transversely, simultaneously reading the trace of the plane light beam on the profile by means of an optical receiver having an optical pointing axis at a constant non-zero pointing angle to the light beam at a series of positions along the profile, and deducing the three-dimensional shape of the profile from the readings performed at these various positions. On each reading, the light beam of which the trace on the profile is read by the optical receiver is chosen from a plurality of predefined light beams which can be activated alternately. The non-contact optical reading method is particularly suitable for reading the three- dimensional shape of the inside edge of a spectacle frame rim, known as the bezel. A specific device is used to implement the method in this application.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a correction most suitable for a foresighted person by using a range consisting of different lenses limited in numbers. SOLUTION: Two lenses among a pair of lenses for presbyopias are gradually changing and simultaneous visual acuity types, and its gradually changing profile changes so that a refractive power of the center is larger than the circumscription in one lens and is the reverse in the other lens. The range 1 consisting of lenses consists of lenses 2A-2Z and 3A-3Z which make two continuous columns 2 and 3, and their appellative refractive powers differ by a prescribed unit, for example, by 0.25 diopters. The method of prescribing a lens pair has a step for performing a standard visual acuity measurement and inspecting method, a step for deciding whether which eye is good in tolerance against a defocus due to the presbyopia and a step for selecting a lens suitable for each eye from each column of the range according to the inspected result.

The residual astigmatism is defined as the difference between the prescribed astigmatism and the astigmatism generated by the working lens with respect to amplitude and an axial center in the reference frame related to the eye and in the respective line-of-sight directions.

The main length of the progression regulated as a ratio between a power increment value and the max. inclination of the average spherical value along the meridian 2 is set shorter than 16 mm. The spherical value is monotonously changed on both sides of the meridian 2 as a function of an angle on a radial circle of 20 mm to be aligned to the geometrical center of the lens 1. The far sight region VL delineated in the upper part of the lens 1 by a line formed at the point equal to the power increment of half the cylindrical value is formed to have an angle region having a start point at the geometrical center of the lens 1 having a bevel angle larger than 150 deg..

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calibration gage suitable for calibration of a contour reader and a calibration method using this calibration gage by measuring the size between the inner flanks of the calibration gage and the size between the outer flanks. SOLUTION: The calibration gauge 48 is designed so as to be mounted at the contour reader 10 to be calibrated in place of a spectacle frame 12. Since the calibration gage 48 is projected by only the one side of a plate 50, a flange 56 comes into contact with a supporting block 22 of a bottom jaw 13B of the contour reader 10. The point of a feeder 15 is actuated on the inner side of the frame to read the size C1. The heel of the feeler 15 is actuated on the outer side of the frame to read the size C2. The respective read values are determined by the conversion of an encoder and are deviated from the exact values by a system error. As a result, the two parameters are determined by the extremely simple method.

This polymer is swollen along with a polymn. initiator in a swelling compsn. containing a polymerizable monomer forming a polymer having a refractive index different from that of the obtained polymer of a fundamental matrix up to thermodynamic equilibrium. Next, the swelling compsn. dispersed in the matrix is uniformly polymerized so as to obtain a final article having a refractive index gradient. The mixture of the photopolymerizable fundamental monomer contains a monofunctional monomer and a polyfunctional crosslinking agent.
