Abstract: A structure for a double exhaust pipe is provided to decrease outflow of exhaust gas by keeping an assembling surface of a flange flat, to cut down manufacturing cost by minimizing the processing area of the flange, and to reduce diameter of the exhaust pipe by removing welding beads in the flange. Exhaust gas discharged from an exhaust manifold with four runners is guided and transferred with two exhaust gas flow passages. A welding projection(22) is fitted to an outer pipe(25) in a rear part of a flange(21) combined with an outlet of the exhaust manifold, and combined by welding. The welding projections are protruded to contain two holes(23) formed in the flange, and the hole of the flange is combined with an inner pipe(24). Clearance between the inner pipe and the outer pipe is formed by combining the welding projection with the outer pipe, and a steel wire mat(26) is formed between the inner pipe and the outer pipe near the flange.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A sub-muffler is provided to achieve a maximized effectiveness of noise attenuation while allowing the section area of an exhaust pipe to be controlled. CONSTITUTION: A sub-muffler comprises a varying unit for varying the section area of an exhaust pipe(28) having a porous portion(26) in accordance with a rotation of a cam plate(22), and a driving unit having at an outer periphery of the exhaust pipe an actuator(24) which is arranged so as to connect the varying unit and operate in accordance with an electric signal output from an electronic control unit(34) recognizing a rotational frequency of an engine. When a vehicle travels at a high speed, rotation frequency of an engine increases. The electronic control unit senses such an increase, and controls the actuator to rotate at a high speed to correspond to a pulsating pressure wave of a short cycle. Then, the cam plate is rotated at a high speed so as to correspond to the cycle of the pulsating pressure wave which is formed short according to the high speed rotation of the actuator, thus attenuating noise. When a vehicle travels at a low speed, rotating frequency of an engine decreases. The electronic control unit senses such a decrease, and controls the actuator to rotate to correspond to a pulsating pressure wave of a long cycle. Then, the cam plate is rotated as a low speed so as to correspond to the cycle of the pulsating pressure wave which is formed long according to the low speed rotation of the actuator, thus attenuating noise.
