Abstract: The bushing has an electrical conductor (1) to which high voltage can be applied. One section of the electrical conductor (1) is surrounded by a varistor arrangement (9). The bushing also contains two electrical connections (4, 6), one (6) of which can be connected to high voltage and the other (4) can be connected to ground, a bushing insulator (5) provided between the electrical conductor (1) and the varistor arrangement (9), and a clamping apparatus (11) which applies a contact force to the electrical connections (4, 6) and to the varistor arrangement (9) located in between them like a sandwich. The clamping apparatus has an insulating part which applies the contact force to the two electrical connections. The bushing insulator is in the form of a molding and has a supporting element, provided with a guide surface, for a contact (1a) (which is connected to the electrical conductor (1)) in a plug connection to a cable or to an apparatus bushing of an electrical apparatus.

Abstract: In order to ensure that the current path is interrupted along the entire length of fusible cut-out elements (4a,4b) in a reliable manner, said elements are provided with burn-up bodies that are arranged at a distance on a strip (5) that is made from an electroconductive material in capsules (8), whereby said bodies are connected by means of a continuous igniter wire (9) and ignition of one burn-up body triggers ignition of the rest. The burn-up bodies can be placed in a recess in the central support body, over which the strip (5) runs. Said burn-up bodies contain an explosive material with an ignition temperature of 245 DEG C. During burn-up, the explosive material gives off 480 J/g of energy, whereby a temperature of approximately 2,000 DEG C is reached and conversion into quenching gas, essentially nitrogen, occurs.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for terminating cables (1), particularly for underwater termination of high voltage power cable and for conducting high voltage conductors in an electrical underwater apparatus, with the purpose of providing a liquid and water tight termination, at the same time as it provides pressure relief for vital components. According to this it is suggested that: each high voltage conductor (phase) (2a, 2b, 2c) is terminated in a separate, liquid filled and pressure compensated interior chamber (7a, 7b, 7c); conduction of the high voltage conductor from each interior chamber into attached electrical apparatus is carried out by means of a solid electrical conductor (10a, 10b, 10c), said conductor being fixed in an insulation material (11) which is liquid and gas tight, the solid electrical conductor and insulation material forming a gas and liquid tight barrier between the cable conductor and attached apparatus, and all interior chambers (7a, 7b, 7c) are adapted to a common, liquid filled and pressure compensated outer chamber (4).

Abstract: A first MOV surge arrester (4) e.g. for a high-voltage system, has a conventional voltage limit, at which it becomes conductive, that lies just above the phase voltage of the system and forms a first current path with a series-connected impedance (6), the value of which (Z) in an initial state is negligible. If the first MOV surge arrester (4) is threatened with overload owing to a prolonged surge and consequent excessive energy absorption by the surge arrester, a further current path which runs through the first MOV surge arrester (4) and a second MOV surge arrester (5) parallel to the impedance (6) and which is connected in series with it will be switched over by raising the impedance (6) value. In this way leakage current through the first MOV surge arrester (4) and thus the energy absorption of the arrester are reduced to normal values. The circuit enables substantial reduction in the level of protection and system insulation may therefore be designed to substantially lower values. The impedance (6) may be formed as a PTC element, a safety fuse or a switch controlled by the energy absorption or temperature of the first MOV surge arrester (4), possibly with a parallel high pass filter and a parallel spark gap.
