    Abstract: A process for preparing acrolein or acrylic acid or a mixture thereof from propane, in which the propane is initially dehydrogenated under heterogeneous catalysis to give propene, secondary components are removed and the remaining gas mixture, comprising propane and propene, is subjected to the heterogeneously catalyzed partial oxidation to acrolein or acrylic acid or a mixture thereof as the target product, target product is removed from the product gas mixture and the remaining residual gas, comprising excess oxygen and unconverted propane, is recycled into the propane dehydrogenation in such a way that the other propane fed to the dehydrogenation is at least partly converted under dehydrogenating conditions at the recycle point.

    Abstract: Acrolein or acrylic acid is prepared by catalyzing partial gas phase oxidation of propene, where a starting reaction gas mixture having propylene and molecular oxygen reactants and inert molecular nitrogen and propane diluent gasses is conducted at elevated temperature through a fixed catalyst bed whose active composition is a multimetal oxide having molybdenum, iron and bismuth. Preparation of acrolein or acrylic acid involves catalyzing partial gas phase oxidation of propene, where a starting reaction gas mixture having propylene and molecular oxygen reactants and the inert molecular nitrogen and propane diluent gasses and having the molecular oxygen and the propylene in a molar oxygen;C 3H 6 ratio of >=1 is conducted at elevated temperature through a fixed catalyst bed whose active composition is a multimetal oxide having molybdenum, iron and bismuth based on its total volume of 6-9 vol.% propylene, 8-18 vol.% molecular oxygen. 6-30 vol.% propane and 32-72 vol.% molecular nitrogen. The molar ratio V 1 of propane in starting reaction gas mixture to propylene in starting reaction gas mixture is 1-4. The molar V 2 of molecular nitrogen present in starting reaction gas mixture to molecular oxygen in starting reaction the mixture is 2-6, and the molar ratio of the molecular oxygen in starting reaction gas mixture to propylene in starting reaction mixture is 1.3-2.4.

    Abstract: Preparation of at least one partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation product of propylene involves subjecting crude propylene (prepared by dehydrogenation or oxydehydrogenation in the presence and/or absence of oxygen) in the presence of unconverted propane as a constituent of a gas mixture 2 which comprises a total 4C-hydrocarbon content of at most 3 vol.%, to a heterogeneously catalyzed gas phase partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation. Preparation of at least one partial oxidation and/or ammoxidation product of propylene involves: (a) subjecting crude propane in the presence of and/or absence of oxygen to a homogeneously and/or a heterogeneously catalyzed dehydrogenation and/or oxydehydrogenation to obtain a propane- and propylene-containing gas mixture 1; (b) optionally removing and/or converting to other compounds a portion of the constituents other than propane and propylene contained in the gas mixture 1 to obtain a gas mixture 1' comprising propane and propylene and also compounds other than oxygen, propane and propylene; and (c) subjecting gas mixture 1 and/or gas mixture 1' as a constituent of a gas mixture 2 to a heterogeneously catalyzed gas phase partial oxidation and/or partial gas phase ammoxidation of propylene contained in gas mixture 1 and/or 1'. The total content of 4C-hydrocarbons of gas mixture 2 is at most 3 vol.%.
