    Abstract: Separation of a 4 carbon (C) hydrocarbon mixture (I) involves extractive distillation with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) into 1,3-butadiene, butene and butane fractions and fraction(s) containing other 4 C hydrocarbons (II). The stages used comprise; (1) complete absorption of 1,3-butadiene and (II) from gaseous (I) with NMP and separating the solution (III) from a gas stream (IV) of unabsorbed butenes and butanes; (2) desorption of butadiene from (III) and separation from the liquid phase (V) containing most of (II); (3) desorption of (II) in one or more fractions from (V); (4) complete absorption of butenes in (IV) in NMP from stage (3) and separating the unabsorbed butanes; (5) desorbing the butenes from the solution; and (6) recycling the NMP free from stage (5) to one of the extraction zones. Each desorption zone operates at a lower pressure and/or higher temperature than the immediately preceding absorption or desorption zone. Separation of a 4 carbon (C) hydrocarbon mixture (I) involves extractive distillation with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) into >= 4 fractions comprising (a) a 1,3-butadiene fraction, (b) a butene fraction, (c) a butane fraction and (d) fraction(s) containing other 4 C hydrocarbons (II). The stages used comprise; (1) complete absorption of 1,3-butadiene and (II) from gaseous (I) with NMP and separating the solution (III) from a gas stream (IV) of unabsorbed butenes and butanes; (2) desorption of butadiene from (III) and separation from the liquid phase (V) containing most of (II); (3) desorption of (II) in one or more fractions from (V) and separation from NMP free from 4 C hydrocarbons; (4) complete absorption of butenes in (IV) in NMP from stage (3) and separating the unabsorbed butanes and solution (VI); (5) desorbing the butenes from (VI) and separation from NMP free from 4 C hydrocarbons; and (6) recycling the NMP from stage (5) to one of the extraction zones. Each desorption zone operates at a lower pressure and/or higher temperature than the immediately preceding absorption or desorption zone.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous method for the separation of a mixture of hydrocarbons, obtained by extractive distillation of a C4 fraction (C4) with a selective solvent (LM) and comprising the hydrocarbons from the C4 fraction (C4), which are more soluble in the selective solvent (LM) than butane or butene. The mixture is fed to a first distillation column (K I), in which said mixture is separated into a top stream (K I-K), comprising 1,3-butadiene, propyne, optionally further low boilers and optionally water and a bottom stream (K I-S), comprising 1,3-butadiene, 1,2-butadiene, acetylene and optionally further high boilers, whereby the proportion of 1,3-butadiene in the bottom stream (K I-S) of the distillation column (K I) is regulated such as to be at least high enough to dilute the acetylene from that region with a risk of spontaneous decomposition. The top stream (K I - K) from the first distillation column (K I) is fed to a second distillation column (K II) and separated in the second distillation column (K II) into a top stream (K II-K), comprising propyne, optionally further low boilers and optionally water and a bottom stream (K II-S), comprising pure 1,3-butadiene.

    Abstract: Sudstituted the abstract with a new abstract as follows: The invention relates to a continuous process for separation a mixture of hydrocarbons which has beenobtained by extractive distillation of C 4 fraction useing a selective solvent and the hydrocarbons from the fraction C 4 which are more readily soluble in the selective solvent than are the butanes and the butenes. The mixture is fed into a first distillation column in which it is separated into a steam which is taken off at the top and comprises 1,3-butadiene, propyne, possibly further low boilers and possibly water and a bottom stream comprising 1,3-butadiene, 1,2-butadiene, acetylenes and possibly further high boilers, with the proportion of 1,3-butadiene in the bottom stream from the distillatin column being regulated in such a way that it is at least sufficiently high to dilute the acetylenes to outside the range in which there is a risk of spontaneous decomposition. The stream taken off from the top of the first distillation column is fed to a second distillation column and is separated into a steam which is taken off at the top and comprises propyne, possibly further low boilers and possibly water and a bottom stream comprising pure 1,3-butadiene in the second distillation column.
