These polymers Ia and Ib are suitable as viscosity index improvers for engine oils.

Reaction products of copolymer I with NH, OH or SH-functional compounds are suitable as dispersing agents for washing and cleaning agent formulations, water-repelling agents for leather and pelts, flow improvers and paraffin dispersants for crude oils and refined mineral oils and lubricant and fuel additives.
