Date Jan. 12, 1995A process for the continuous production of polyamides from a mixture of at least one lactam and water and, if required, other monomer units and/or conventional additives and fillers under polyamide-forming conditions, where the mixture of the starting materials is heated in liquid phase in a first reaction zone until a conversion of at least 70% is reached, and undergoes adiabatic decompression and further polymerization in another reaction zone, wherein, in the first reaction zone, 0.5-7% by weight of water are employed, the temperature is increased to the range from 220 DEG to 310 DEG C., and polymerization is carried out until a conversion of at least 85% is reached and, in the second reaction zone, after the decompression further polymerization is carried out in the range from 215 DEG to 300 DEG C. without heat input.

    Abstract: Partly aromatic, partly crystalline, thermoplastic polyamide moulding material (I) contain (A) 40-100 wt.% of a copolyamide contg. (a1) 30-44 mole% terephthalic acid units, (2a) 6-20 mole% isophthalic acid units, (a3) 43-49.5 mole% hexamethylenediamine units and (a4) 0.5-7 mole% of units derived from 6-30C cyclic aliphatic diamines, (B) 0-50 wt.% fibrous or particulate filler, (c) 0-30 wt.% rubber-elastic polymer and (D) 0-30 wt.% normal additives and processing aids. Also claimed are moulded prods. obtd. from (I). Copolyamide (A) comprises 32-40 mole% (a1), 10-18 mole% (a2); 46-48.5 mole% (a3) and 1.5-4 mole% (a4). Pref., (A) has a triamine content of less than 0.5 wt.% and a degree of crystallinity of more than 30%. Pref. diamine (a4) is bis-(4-aminocyclohexyl)-methane (BACM) or bis-(4-amino-4-methylcyclohexyl)-methane.

    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of polytetramethylene adipamide, in which (a) an aqueous solution of the salt of 1,4-diaminobutane and adipic acid is heated with evaporation of water to form a vapor phase and a molten prepolymer, (b) the said prepolymer and vapor phase are passed, to effect thorough mixing thereof, through a mass transfer zone equipped with baffles and located immediately downstream of stage (a), (c) the said vapor phase is separated from the polymer in a separting zone and the polymer is discharged in the form of a melt capable of being granulated, with the proviso that the total residence time in stages (a), (b) and (c) is less than 5 minutes, and (d) pyrrolidine is distilled off from the vapor phase separated in stage (c) and 1,4-diaminobutane is recycled to the vaporizing stage (a).

    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of copolyamides in which (a) an aqueous solution of salts comprising equimolar amounts of diamines and dicarboxylic acids is passed under elevated pressure with simultaneous evaporation of water through a tubular precondensation zone to form a vapour phase and a prepolymer, at a temperature above the melting point of the prepolymer, (b) the vapour phase is separated from the prepolymer melt, (c) the vapour phase is separated in a column into steam and an aqueous diamine solution, and the diamine-containing aqueous solution is fed back into the polymerisation, (d) the prepolymer melt is mixed with molten caprolactam at polyamide-forming temperatures and (e) the mixture of prepolymer and caprolactam is passed from top to bottom through a vertical polymerisation tube at polyamide-forming temperatures, and a copolyamide is obtained.

    Abstract: Process for the continuous preparation of aromatic polycondensates from a) aromatic hydroxy-, thio- and/or aminocarboxylic acids, b) aromatic dihydroxy-, dithio-, diamino- and/or hydroxy-amino compounds c) if desired urea and d) a molar amount of aromatic dicarboxylic acids which is equivalent to the sum of components b) and c), by 1. reacting components a), b) and d) and, if used, c) with lower fatty acid anhydrides in excess, at a temperature of from 140 to 280 DEG C while distilling off the fatty acids and fatty acid anhydrides, 2. passing the oligomer mixture from top to bottom through a vertical precondensation zone forming a two-phase mixture of prepolymers and vapour-form fatty acids, 3. separating the prepolymers from the vapour-form fatty acids and 4. condensing the prepolymer in a condensation zone to give a polycondensate which is suitable for granulation.
