    Abstract: Polyurethane foam is produced by processing the reaction mixture (polyisocyanates and compounds with at least two NCO-reactive hydrogen atoms) in an extruder in which the pressure is higher than atmospheric pressure. A method for the production of polyurethane foam by reacting polyisocyanates with compounds containing at least two hydrogen atoms which react with isocyanate groups involves (a) mixing these reactants, (b) feeding the mixture into an extruder in which the internal pressure is above atmospheric pressure, (c) extruding the foamed mixture and (d) hardening the foam. An Independent claim is also included for polyurethane foam, especially rigid polyurethane foam, obtained by this method.

    Abstract: Rigid foams based on isocyanate are produced by reacting a) organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates with b) at least one relatively high molecular weight compound containing at least two reactive hydrogen atoms and, if desired, c) low molecular weight chain extenders and/or crosslinkers in the presence of d) carbon dioxide as sole or additional blowing agent, e) foam stabilizers, f) catalysts and, if desired, g) further auxiliaries and/or additives, wherein at least one organosilicon compound having a relative ethylene oxide/propylene oxide weight ratio of over 70/30 is used as foam stabilizer, with the total Si content being greater than or equal to 5% by weight, based on the weight of the foam stabilizer or stabilizers used. The isocyanate-based rigid foams produced in this way can be used as insulation material.

    Abstract: Dialkyl-hydroxyalkane phosphonates are prepared by reacting a phosphonate and an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst. Dialkyl-hydroxyalkyl phosphonates (I) of formula (1) are produced by reaction of: (A) a phosphonate of formula: (R -O)-PO(OR )-H (2), (B) an aldehyde of formula: R -COH (3), and (C) a basic catalyst, involves (1) mixing (A), (B) and (C), or (2) mixing (A) and (B) or (A) and (C) at 20-60 degrees C, and adding the subsequent component when the mixture reaches 20-60 degrees C, then heating at 61-300 degrees C for 1-30 minutes. R ,R = 1-10C alkyl, 6-13C aryl or 7-14C benzyl, optionally substituted with halogen or hydroxy; R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-13C aryl, 7-14C benzyl or a furfuryl Independent claims are also included for: (i) a polyurethane (II) containing (I); and (ii) a process for the production of (II) by reaction of: (D) an organic poly isocyanate, (E) a high mol. wt. compound having, at least, groups containing a hydrogen free to react with isocyanate groups, and (F) a dialkyl-hydroxyalkyl phosphonate (I).
